[Was peterg4000 but got sick of that lame user name. And no, the photo is not actually me]
@just - Thanks for the tip. I uninstalled kdeplasma-addons, and now I have “Breeze” and “Thumbnail Grid” working again.
My “Breeze Dark” continues to not work.
I still have 5 others besides the 4 you listed. Mostly they don’t work, except for “Thumbnail Grid”.
And in fact, that’s close to the style I was looking for. So it’ll do.
Weird that this is so flaky. I tend to tweak display setting for speed, not candy/animations, so maybe I’ve disabled something that upsets many of the visualizations…
Solved for now. Thanks again.
@just - Thanks. After installing kinfocenter it says KDE Plasma 5.10.1. (Would be ideal if there was a ‘right-click->About’ somewhere…)
Cover and Flip switches worked when I activate OpenGL.
But I didn’t really want anything that grandiose, and all the other continue to not work, including Breeze.
Any thoughts on how I might get the others to work?
I have an Antergos system all up to date with KDE desktop.
I assume it’s Plasma 5, though there is no obvious way to discover the version of KDE through KDE itself, which seems like an oversight!
Anyway, I would like Alt-tab task switching to give me something useful as a visual indicator of what I am switching to.
I have found my way to Settings->Window Management->Task Switcher
But none of the ‘Visualization’ options therein seem to work. Nothing on my screen changes when I am Alt-tab-ing.
Until recently, only ‘Breeze’ worked. Now even that one does not.
I have kdeplasma-addons installed. Even uninstalled & reinstalled.
Any clue how to get this working?
Possible hint to the problem:
If I run
kcmshell5 kwintabboxin an xterm, I get a bunch of outputs: (7 times to be precise)
kf5.kcoreaddons.desktopparser: Could not locate service type file kservicetypes5/kwin-windowswitcher.desktop, tried ("/home/peter/.local/share", "/usr/share", "/usr/local/share")
@just’s 8-line black magic from yesterday has resolved my problem.
… Either that or the key updates overnight…
Sorry for the delay - I have been at work and stuff.
Yes, all’s well that ends well… Returning to our normal programming…
P.S. - This is going to sound like a grumpy comment, but it’s more meant to be stating fact - This is the stuff that makes so many people run a mile from Linux. Just sayin’…
Great support here, but most ‘normal’ people wouldn’t have known how to even describe the problem…
FYI: I am having the same issues as @Ouralos.
I had to install reflector, and indeed needed to drop the ‘u’ pacman option, otherwise the very root problem here stopped reflector from installing.
Have run @just’s commands. Still getting:
error: caja: signature from "Antergos Build Server (Automated Package Build System) <[email protected]>" is marginal trust :: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/caja-1.18.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).
Though the statement “marginal trust” is new. Used to say “unknown trust”, so something has changed.
Will follow along…
sudo pacman -SyyuI am getting this for every package after the packages download:
error: caja: signature from "Antergos Build Server (Automated Package Build System) <[email protected]>" is unknown trust :: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/caja-1.18.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)). Do you want to delete it? [Y/n]
Now there was a stuck update (for me) a while ago where I found a suggested fix was to blow away /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt and let it get recreated. - Which seemed to work. Something to do with this?
I kept a copy of that old file though, and have put it back in place, and same behaviour.
Some similarities here to this thread perhaps: https://forum.antergos.com/topic/6834/pgp-signatures-unverified
But I tried the suggestions therein. No joy.
Help! Can’t update?
I updated Mate recently (mate-about reports 1.16.0), and an issue I just noticed is that if I drag a window from my primary screen, onto my second screen, they dissappear from the WIndow List.
And I mean screen, not workspace.
I can get a window with its mid-point near my screen split. Drag left a few pixels and it appears in the Window LIst. Drag right a few pixels and it disappears from the Window List.
My 2nd screen is in portrait mode, if that is any issue.
Annoying, but not fatal.
All Windows appear as normal in ‘Alt-Tab’ selection.
Is there somewhere more direct I could report this?
Guys, this thread becomes endless. I have no other things to add except those already said and written. It would be nice to stop using the thread.
I was really just probing to see if there was some last nugget of info we were missing that you could offer. Seems not. Tried it all. I give up.
Catch you on the KDE sub-forum. Lol.
So “mate-menu” is actually a fork of “mate-mint-menu”??? I never knew that. Sorry, I have been even more confused than I realised!
And @just - a few others here CANNOT get mate-mint-menu working, contrary to your experience, and after trying to follow your suggestions on this and other threads.
If you have any suggestions to get either mate-menu or mate-mint-menu working, I would be over the moon to hear it.
As mentioned over the last few days in this thread - mate-mint-menu remains invisible after adding to Panel.
I just tried installing mate-menu with my new-found knowledge, but it complains about a bunch of missing dependencies, one being “mate-desktop” ?!? Huh?
I am really close to begrudgingly going back to KDE, but it had weird DPI-related bugs with my display setup (Mouse cursor going gigantic), that appear to have been outstanding for several years with little interest to fix.
Yep, I think I am finally feeling the Arch rolling-release pain many talk about… Damn.
