Having issues with Sid Meyer’s Civilization BE on Steam.
I went through some forum posts on Arch and made sure I have all the correct libraries including the 32-bit intel one in AUR.
However game still does not start.
From Steam if i launch it it says “Running” for a few seconds then stops.
From CLI I get the following :
$ ./CivBE ./CivBE: /usr/lib32/libcurl-gnutls.so.4: no version information available (required by ./CivBE) [S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; no appID found. Either launch the game from Steam, or put the file steam_appid.txt containing the correct appID in your game folder.
Does anyone have any advice ?
How should I format the steam_appid.txt file ?
try to run steam-native and NOT steam-runtime and you should be fine
I tried and got a library error :
You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run: libXtst.so.6 libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 libpulse.so.0 libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0
Fixed that by getting necessary packages.
Steam overlay starts, I can see the processes in “ps aux | grep steam” BUT it still fails to do anything after I login.
Hey. Need some advice on the Civ games. I have all of them on steam. All fail to start.

I switched from a Radeon HD to a GTX 1050 ti and I couldn’t be happier with the performance or the compatibility. Using proprietary drivers.
Already went with the Radeon R9 290/390.
So far so good.
The nvidia is on the shelf as a backup.
Maybe will buy a 1050 next year.
Will probably also mark this as solved.
Hi . Currently planning to install Antergos.
I have an nvidia GTX 770 and an AMD R9 290/390.
(reason is i was looking at pci passthrough in past)
What do you recommend I use ? Nvidia with the closed driver blob or AMD with the open source drivers ?
What works best from your experience ?
