What is it with arch-based systems that they don’t play well with others? In the past i used Manjaro, but for some time have preferred Antergos as my main OS. I do like to install and have a look at others on a secondary laptop. Just now i have 3 non-arch linux OSs existing together and behaving properly. The last one installed simply uses it’s version of grub and adds the others. If i try the same config with Manjaro or Antergos, installing first, the next os feletes it from the grub choices. If i install the arch-based os last, it almost always doesn’t include other oss iin the grub boot menu?

I’ve installed several times on older BIOS machines and get the same results. At first install everything is fine. When i logout, reboot, or shutdown and reboot later i get duplicate icons on the mate taskbar for Menu, any quick-launch programs i have placed in the taskbar, and date/time. When i del one of these copies they both disappeear. When i put each one back into the task bar the problem is solved and doesn’t repeat itself. The icon group for network, battery status, etc are not similarly affected. No great flaw; just wondering whether others have experienced this. Maybe my info would be helpful to the @developers ? Thx.

Re: Boot up errors
How do i create/find the file showing the many boot-up and shutdown errors i get so that i and others may read them? As it is they flash by so that i only catch bits and pieces with no way of sharing with others. Thanks.

How do i unsubscribe from a thread so that i no longer get an email every time someone posts to it? Sorry, i tried the search but there were over 700 possibilities the first pages of which only referred to threads of other sorts.

@c00ter Yeah i remember when most computers had the top of their keyboards covered in sticky notes to recall a zillion key shortcuts for Word Perfect. And that’s just for one program. Love a keyboard that feels great (many do not). Love a good mouse. Yeah, the back and forth isn’t perfect, but this combo gets my work done.

Since i slid my laptop onto the floor by tripping over the ethernet cable a couple times i get about a dozen errors at boot up along the lines of “Method parse/ execution failed AE not found” along with strings of letter-number combinations and references to various "Node"s. After these it seems to boot and work normally. After wiping the hd and reinstalling the latest Antergos, i still get these same results. HP Diagnostics finds no errors on the HD, but i am dubious. Are these errors related to bad HS sectors or something of that kind? Thanks!

Using up-to-date Antergos and an Epson XP-300 printer. As only once have i gotten this thing to connect wirelessly using any OS, i now connect via usb. I have the driver for my model installed from the AUR. My printer is seen and selected in the Print Settings, and will print a test page. Problem is, Gimp is the only app i have that sees this printer. Using MATE, Pluma doesn’t see it, nor Firefox, nor the default pdf viewer. The only way i could print from the web is using Print to File in the browser, then converting it to something Gimp could work with, then print one page at a time.
Any ideas why this is the only program that can see my printer? Thx. -

@Noel Great to hear! With your linux experience i think you’ll find Antergos nearly as user friendly for most tasks and much more up to date. I recall the days of program developers saying “That bug was fixed long ago but unfortunately hasn’t yet made it into the ubuntu repositories.” No such issue with Antergos/Arch! Welcome aboard!

@megaman Make mine MATE! After long experience with xfce i was ready for a change. Not a unity fan, for me gnome 3 would be for tablets, and kde too much like windows. Thought I’d like lxqt, but not so much, at least so far. Not a fan of the Cinnamon look, so i didn’t think I’d like Mate either, Turns out I’d only seen it in the Mint look. The other two mate look options are very pleasing to me, intuitive, and stable. Second choice is lxde. Sure hope someone keeps developing it after the lxqt switch. My only concession now is Focuswriter is my word processor of choice, and that requires tons of qt stuff. Ah well…
