• fstab mount points on desktop

    since a view day all the fstab mount points are on my desktop like the root file system.
    I use Mate 1.20

    # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
    # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
    # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
    # that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
    # <file system> <mount point>   <type>  <options>       <dump>  <pass>
    UUID=447C-AE27 /boot/efi vfat defaults,relatime 0 0
    UUID=4ea9c2f8-7aa7-4ccb-81f6-8b8ef9dafb32 swap swap defaults 0 0
    UUID=86a49c99-11db-47a3-b209-c2d3234e42c5 /mint btrfs defaults,relatime,space_cache,autodefrag,inode_cache 0 0
    UUID=d1992068-51d6-4f23-92f4-5b07e277b6cc /home xfs defaults,relatime 0 0
    UUID=1dde1680-66f7-4771-ad87-c62eb5f69178 /musik xfs defaults,relatime 0 0
    UUID=a9e0bb1a-0189-4fc9-b1ff-0ce08c30e721 /speicher btrfs defaults,relatime,space_cache,autodefrag,inode_cache 0 0
    UUID=f11681a0-93bd-4b83-9c5c-bf22d2fa4ea2 /data xfs defaults,relatime 0 0
    UUID=b6a23cd8-89eb-4f9b-ab5b-39c33c3f5577 / btrfs defaults,relatime,space_cache,autodefrag,inode_cache 0 0

    How to fix that?
    And now a USB drive no longer is mounted to the desktop? Strange 😨

  • here the output from dmesg: https://ptpb.pw/k_SJ and lspci, fdisk etc: https://ptpb.pw/VNTV

    Doesn’t Mate have some Desktop Settings program?
    I’m not using Mate so I’m not sure…

  • @manuel
    I can choose or not to show mounted devices like USB disks but before the devices from fstab were not showing up this is since a view days.

  • @gnote612
    I’m using Xfce and it has a program xfdesktop-settings that can very selectively define which things are visible and which not.

    I’m just installing Mate and try to find if it has anything similar… :)

  • There seems to be a package mate-tweak that I guess could handle that.
    But unfortunately it crashes and creates a core dump right after starting it.

    Do @developers have any info about it?

    The error on terminal is:

    $ mate-tweak
    Window Manager is: marco
    (mate-tweak:868): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 19:40:38.298: Settings schema 'org.mate.Marco.general' does not contain a key named 'side-by-side-tiling'

    and then it creates a core dump.

    It used to work like a year ago (i stopped using Mate since i switched to i3).
    I just logged out to start a MATE session and i find the same error as you do, just don’t know for how long it stopped working.

  • May mate-tweak needs updated
    As Antergos using package from Antergos Repo but mate-tweak from Archrepo ?

  • mate-desktop is from Archrepo… T9 autotypo

  • May someone can take a look at GitHub and fill a bug on this?

  • I’m not sure if this post is related with mate-tweak or caja file manager (which automounts connected devices under MATE)

    1. I remember mate desktop was being packed by Antergos due to some bugs under arch based distros, like no panel (or just a grey and amost invisible panel with nothing inside), no desktop icons and to update more often than archlinux.

    2. As far as i know @karasu was going to remove mate from repo since arch is updating it more frequently now, so i no longer see a reason in packing it.

    3. I don’t know why mate-tweak was always considered optional (AUR for archlinux) and took a long time for being packaged by Antergos (it’s so usefull). Maybe just pack it and leave all other packages to archlinux.

  • Mate Tweak is not the problem, I use copmiz and it works.
    The strange mounting is my problem, I can hide that on the desktop but in Caja or PCManFM it is still present.
    EFI, / as Root Folder of the Filesystem and so on.
    Also it is not normal to see the root on desktop.
    Could be that systemd has to do with that?

  • @gnote612

    I don’t kow, caja here is working fine, but i’m not using MATE desktop.

  • @fernandomaroto

    so there is no solution for this? ☹

    The things is that it seems to be working for everyone but you, which indicate something related with your hardware or system configuration that you may changed. It’s hard for any of us track a issue that can’t be repeated on our own systems. :(

    Who is using Mate and have no problems?
    I’m sure it has nothing to do with my hardware. I use Mint 18.3 with Mate dual boot without any problems.
    My idea is that the mounting problems depending on systemd but I have no good practice with that but will try

  • I switched to Arch kompletly and after updating all the error is gone.
    So it is something Antergos-Mate specific.

    Good bye
