• Awesome or i3 for non-developers?

I’m looking into changing to WM like awesome or i3. I’m a non-technical user. And I do not intend to be one.
Will you tell me how hard are these to learn, setup and maintain? I’m looking into getting DE out of my way not focusing on it.

I’m a cognitive neuroscience student. I use my laptop, mostly to surf the internet, read papers and write my blog. I like simplicity. I do not know scripting or any programming language.

    💯 ☑

Look here, at my setup… it is a bit work to get it behave in a simple and usefull way, but then it stays away in the back…

As you can see i have 4 tabs with --> Terminal --> Browser --> Email --> Files
Clicking on tab showing the automatic started programm (fullscreen) The buttom panel carry basic system information + tray icons for configs and volume and power button…
New started apps opens fullscreen in tabbed view…

I got rofi menu by pressing F9, lockscreen mod+l toggeling tiling view mod+e closing a window F4

Why would you like to change from your current DE to one of these?

mostly to surf the internet, read papers and write my blog. I like simplicity.

Both require a “learning curve” at first. There is the alternative of keeping your current DE while learning i3, or you can keep both installed forever too.
After configured i3 satisfy your current use/demands for sure.

Personally, I use i3 and like it a lot. I switched from MATE to i3, it was lighter and did everything i wanted, very usefull to handle windows and run virtual machines in real full screen etc etc.
