  • Logs ARE uploaded. We use bugsnag (https://www.bugsnag.com).
So each log line is written to /tmp/cnchi.log and also sended to bugsnag

cnchi log includes username hostname and UUIDS …

OK, let’s see a few of the Bugsnag investors:
    https://www.bugsnag.com/about/

    GV
Launched as Google Ventures in 2009, GV is the venture capital arm of Alphabet, Inc.

This is just one of the investors, there are others, I guess these data is being sent to them without consent of the users, at least put a warning telling the users that the error logs will be sent, what information is being sent and to whom, for transparency sake.

  • Hi,

It’s been ages we wrote a “Privacy Policy” document:

    Cheers!

  • @karasu

Well, I hope some ideas on this thread help the project revert this trend:

Some improvements on the distro, installer, website and other areas are needed, I hope other users in the future help. I’m tired of trying to help, I’m out, best wishes to all.

To be honest, I couldn’t care less about those stats 😉

Don’t get me wrong. I care about people opinions, of course… but I don’t care if we have more or less users 😁

Having said that, as I promised, we will take into consideration all suggestions posted here (and future ones, too!).

    Thanks!

Ups! I didn’t see this! Well, it’s a pity as you gave some good suggestions.

    Cheers!

    Why that?

Not everything can be implemented directly, and development/changes needs time and manpower.
But devs take all users suggestions very serious and try the best to implement, if it is possible and reasonable!

And the everlasting reminder: Antergos runs as a part-time-job aside from real live needs to get the F**** money in ;)*

In my opinion we start up a very fertile discussion here and it is just started!
Devs can use this as the base for improvements and ideas on that, and we the users (community) can serve our needs and ideas. If we want to get it implement we can digg deeper and try understand how development/programming works and can join at github to force development.

    And on statistics:

On a longer period down trend is not visible 😉

  • @joekamprad
Agreed, this has been an interesting discussion. New ideas, and clarifications to some processes Antergos has. Probably quite useful material for the @developers to think about and possibly implement.

  • @developers, what do you think about the idea (presented above) to prevent a user from trying to install in the wrong boot mode (UEFI vs. BIOS/MBR)? It could also be a clear warning to the user if using a wrong mode. And this means also booting the installer in the wrong mode…

This has been a major issue many times when a newcomer has failed installing Antergos properly, and a major problem when trying to discover the reason for booting problems right after install.

Could it be reasonable to implement that kind of a shield in cnchi (or maybe in the installer ISO)?

  • Seems like it goes against Arch Linux philosophy.

A user is supposed to know what hardware he has and how to get max from it. To install a minimal set of strictly needed software. Without useless configuration files and bloatware.

Otherwise Antergos risks to be reduced down to Windows, Ubuntu, Manjaro level.

  • @just
I wouldn’t use Windows card nor philosophical agendas on this issue.
And as many have already expressed on this forum, Arch philosophy is not the same as Antergos philosophy, don’t you agree?

For me this is just a pragmatic thing, helping users not to make wrong decisions right from the beginning. Wrong decisions only lead to unnecessary waste of time for the installer and for the forum people who try to help others.
