It usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks for the latest version of Gnome to become available in the regular repositories. It will usually be available first in the testing repositories, but it’s not recommended to install unless you know what you’re doing, as it may break your system, hence the reason it’s in testing.

A few Gnome packages are shown as being due for update:
    https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sort=&q=gnome&maintainer=&flagged=

Details about Arch repositories can be found here, but take notice of the warnings about using testing:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Official_repositories

If you are desperate to try Gnome 3.28 you can download OpenSuse nightly build ISO to try it out from:
    http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Medias/images/iso/?P=GNOME_Next*

The best advice is to be patient and wait for the regular repositories to be updated, Arch is always one of the first to make the latest version available.

  • Every time I’m thrilled about a new GNOME version. Finally it turns out that nothing special was added, and some features were deleted. ;)

i took a look at the last option from the nighltly
nothing major i see a few bits here and there… the favourites in documents could come in handy
i noticed the fonts look nicer for some reason… like anti aliasing smooth fonts compared to mine …

ill guess ill just wait im happy that these boxes are going great and i was thinking of adding a couple of lines to my pacman.conf to just upgrade the gnome but im having second thoughts!! …

  • i tried

    [gnome-unstable]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

on a test box and this doesnt work :(

    Ill try some other options!

  • @wayneward Even if you did get it installed it is highly likely that some extensions wouldn’t work… I personally would wait until I know the extensions I use are also updated…

  • I did take a look and to be honest its worth the wait. Have to say gnome is getting very polished. I think if they made a questionare regarding the standard applications people need and what they do with them they could build the applications to make a killer desktop suite. I dont think there so far away now…

  • @wayneward I would take a look to Reddit if some users get unstable working you will find a solution first there…

  • sweet ill take a look there… good idea :)

  • Looks like it finally dropped, I was asked to upgrade to Gnome 3.28 this morning.

    Let the fun begin! =)

    Thanks,
    Asif

Just installed the same iso release in a VM, and we’re running just perfect now.

Only little issue is Pacman not present in the system tray.

    Otherwise, good to go.

    Thanks,

    needs to install chrome-gnome-shell
and then install topicons-plus from here directly:
    https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1031/topicons/

Awesome, thanks for the info! I will do.

  • gnome-control-center > details
