• How to use AppIndicator?

I’m facing many issues with TopIconPlus extension and since I read that it’s deprecated and abandoned I’m curious to know what is the alternative to the tray.
I read that there is the AppIndicator library which will replace the tray but only one installed application seems to support it (Telegram).
Rambox, Discord, MailSpring and even Evolution don’t show any icon and I don’t know why.

I installed the StatusNotifierItem extension plus libappindicator-gtk2/3 and libindicator-gtk2/3.
    Have I missed something?

    libappindicator

A stupid question maybe but did you restart afterwards? status notifier works for me although it is only megasync that I use it for…

    Yep, twice.

  • @deook as far is i can see topicons plus from repository (installed over packagemanager) do not work at the moment… but directly from gnome shell extensions page will still work (needs to uninstall with packagemanager first and install chrome-gnome-shell)

For Appindicator apps will need to support https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/StatusNotifierItem/
to be visible inside… as far as i know there is no replacement for legacy tray icon. App development needs to implement another way to show notifications under GNOME.
