• Can't install Antergos

    Hi,

So I have been trying to install Antergos on my new laptop (MSI GS63) without success. I’ve tried several things I’ll explain below.

    1. Using an old Antergos DVD I have (Release 17.3) I’m able to run live Antergos with UEFI enabled. When I try to install Antergos, I get the following error:
'Cannot create download package list (metalinks).'
Please reference the following number when reporting this error: 971318

I’ve read many solutions to this problems based on manually modifying antergos-mirrorlist and mirrorlist files, but don’t seem to work as it keeps crashing.

    1. Using the newest iso, Antergos 18.2, in a USB and UEFI enabled. Antergos live never launches and the BIOS/UEFI windows pops up all the times.

    2. Using the same iso, Antergos 18.2, in the same USB and Legacy BIOS enabled. Antergos live gets to launch, but it get stuck. The error I get says something like: Unable to add image options measurement: Invalid Parameter.

I’d prefer to mantain UEFI rather than having Legacy BIOS because I’ll be dual-booting with Windows 10.

Can anyone help me to find out what is happening and make it work?

    Thanks in advanced!
    Regards

  • is secure boot disabled? as far as i know this is still needed to get it booting on EFI-Firmware!

It is. After reflashing the iso into another USB, now I can boot but it shows the error Unable to add image options measurement: Invalid Parameter.. After this error I get a lot of [ 288.909490] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read data cache entry errors and finally it get stucks in the antergos logo screen.

  • how do you burn the iso to usb?
I would prefere etcher as it ever fails here!

I tried dd and etcher and two different USB Drives. I’m having the same errors with both drives. I’m pretty sure it is because of the release/method of burning it but I can’t find and older release.

Thanks, I’ve tried with release 18.1. Now I’m not getting the SQUASHFS error but it stucks in the antergos logo screen. I’ll try with 17.12 and your antergos rescue iso.

It doesn’t for me. I’ve tried to disable it and putting it in compatibility mode, and nothing changes.

  • I tried many combinations of releases, usb drives and uefi settings and is not booting in any of them. The only release a get to boot is 17.3 in a DVD, which brings up the following question: why can I boot 17.3 release and not 17.11, 17.12, 18.1 or 18.2?

  • @fnc Could you some info about your hardware? Command
    inxi -Fxxc0
If inxi is not installed, use

I could give that iso a try, but I still don’t understand why release 17.3 works and the newer don’t…

@joekamprad When I run the ISO for nVidia systems I get the following error: Failed to start loader.efi: (14) Not found. Any help please?
If it helps, I must say I have windows 10 installed but I have erased my EFI partition because it was in my HDD and I wanted to have it in my SSD, hoping that linux would create one EFI partition for both OS.

  • @fnc Still one thing to try is to blacklist nouveau and nvidia drivers since you have two graphics cards. That might help you get it installed.

How can I do this? Is something like modifying the iso?

  • @fnc No, just give kernel parameters on boot. Sorry, I don’t have the syntaxes here, but Arch wiki should have answers.

  • @fnc Antergos can use the same EFI partition as Windows, no need to create a new one, just mount the Windows EFI partition to /boot/efi during install.

  • Kernel boot parameters to blacklist nouveau:
    modprobe.blacklist=nouveau

  • Thanks for your help @manuel. How do I enter this parameters before booting from the live usb?
