• Antergos beta testing

    @joekamprad Why?

  • As I see it, very important (core) packages are being updated from upstream (Arch).

By the way, we will be moving from yaourt to aurman for managing AUR packages (by default, obviously you can use whatever you want…) feel free to test it, it’s already in the Antergos repository.

    Cheers!

  • @karasu
Seems that aurman fails with a user that has no sudo rights.

  • Hi,

You cannot run AUR helpers with root. How do you manage yaourt without sudo?

  • Tbh every kernel update is a core update and these happen quite frequently, so I still don’t get the message why we have to be aware of these updates.

  • @earthmind it was not only kernel updated, there come some core packages with it, but as nothing bad happens I can take the “be aware” back 😎
Thanks @karasu about info on change to aurman.
Will need to get some knowledge about it’s specialities, as I know it from long times ago when it was a little child only👻

  • @karasu
I have been using aurman for the last couple of weeks and no complaints here, but just out of curiousity: Why the departure from yaourt?

  • @bryanpwo

Development is really slow (latest version is nearly a year old), and there are other better alternatives (like aurman).

Check yourt github page and Arch “Aur helpers” page to see what I mean:

  • @karasu said in Antergos beta testing:

Strange… Today after the latest updates aurman no longer fails (python no longer crash) on a non-sudo user.
Did @developers fix it, or was it some strange anomaly in my system? 😉

  • there is also the problem with splitted packages and yaourt… and yaourt is in some ways not verbose, what let a user with a question mark and do not realy show what is wrong or what to do…
And yes as @karasu said comparison shows why:

  • Pamac may have some problem again… I just updated with pamac-manager, and right after a successful update it showed one new package that needed update (opera-developer), but couldn’t update it.

I got it updated with pacman.

Maybe it was just my bad luck that the update arrived right after updating the system. But anyway, pamac wasn’t able to manage that properly.

Have to keep watching pamac more closely again…
