• How can I install Antergos with Deepin desktop?

Hey everyone! I am going to try and reinstall Antergos again!!! I have a problem though, the only DE I want is Deepin DE. I have never done a custom install of Arch before though! :( Could someone please walk me through the steps of doing a complete install of Antergos with the only desktop being Deepin and also no custom Antergos LightDM lock screen (like the lock screen that comes with Gnome. It always gives me issues)? I don’t want to install something like Gnome and then add the Deepin DE on top of it and remove Gnome because last time I did that on Ubuntu and it was a bit buggy. Any help is appreciated! ;)

  • Hi,
you can install Deepin as first choice in cnchi and after install, you can install sddm and the sddm-config-editor-git then disable Lightdm and enable sddm like this:
sudo systemctl disable lightdm && sudo systemctl enable sddm.
After restart the system starts with sddm and with Antergos-Deepin only.

  • sudo systemctl -f enable sddm will do remove lightdm and enable sddm in one step ;)

    and remove

    rm ~/.config/autostart/light-locker.desktop && rm ~/.config/autostart/screensaver-settings.desktop

Wait! Deepin is now a default desktop available in the graphical installer? Last I checked it wasn’t. That’s cool!

  • @joekamprad I think that by default Deepin uses LightDM. Can I just remove the Antergos settings? They always crash the login screen after suspending my system. I would like the Deepin version of LightDM because it has a blurry background and things like that.

  • @CadenMitchell
If you install Deepin, the Deepin greeter is installed, but not enabled.
You can enable it by changing the session in the terminal with:

    sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

    and change the line:

    greeter session=lightdm-webkit2-greeter into greeter session=deepin-session-ui

  • yes as far as i can see you can uninstall light-locker also it is not a dependency from meta package…

What i would do is boot into new install uninstall lighdm lightdm-webkit2-greeter and light-locker
remove /etc/lightdm (sudo rm -R /etc/lightdm) and reinstall lightdm may you run in some dependency struggle… so take a look before proceeding with uninstall !!

so what @Bryanpwo give you is may a more easy and 100% working solution!!!

  • @CadenMitchell I’m not expert whatsoever and might be wrong but, if you install Antergos using the minimal iso and choosing Deepin DE, I think you might avoid having to install-uninstall-remove packages and configuration files, since you’ll get just what you need and nothing more, Just an idea, not even sure if this is correct though. :)

not even sure if this is correct though

no, the livecd is minimum but will install a full Antergos setup based on selected configs inside cnchi just as the regular Antergos iso.

Oh well, I knew I might be wrong, like I said I’m not expert and thought that could be the case but it’s clear that it’s not. Thanks for the clarifying! By the way, I saw that you created that wiki article you told me about in my post about the “initramfs” issue. Nice work! I was thinking in translating it into Spanish which is my natural language. :)

Don’t worry about it, i’m still learning a lot of linux, i’m very newbie :)

You’re welcome. I actually don’t know if Antergos wiki can autotranslate articles to another languages, i never checked it, but that would be awesome. If not maybe we could start a multilanguage wiki. I’m interested on what @joekamprad can say about it since he’s the wiki master :p

I just finished translating your article by following instructions from here https://antergos.com/wiki/translating-wiki-articles/, but I can’t find a “save” option anywhere. Is there any?

  • Here’s the translation https://antergos.com/wiki/es/system-admin/kernel/fix-initramfs-warning-lib-modules-with-bios-boot/

Just realized that no “save” button was needed but to uncheck “edit translation” box only :)

  • yes autotranslation is there, but it mostly need some “real” person to check it, and if after this later original entry is changed, translation get messed up again.

    [offtopic]
In my opinion translation should be optional and on the run, so that if you need an articel you can hit translate and get the autotranslation, and if the article is translated it should be open the human translated one… [/offtopic]

  • @bryanpwo I installed Antergos in VirtualBox and I can confirm that the Intel drivers did mess up the OBS screen recorder but when they were uninstalled it worked fine! I tried to make the adjustment to lightdm config file but the lock screen won’t load. I can try to reinstall and make sure I didn’t do anything wrong but it just crashed lightdm for me.

  • @CadenMitchell
There are some problems with Deepin at the moment, it’s qt5 related. The problems you have, may be caused by this. The Deepin devs are aware of the problem and are working to solve the problem.

  • @bryanpwo Okay! Thanks! I don’t know if I can use Antergos with this problem because the Antergos custom login screen usually crashes my computer and keeps me from logging in. I then have to restart my computer. ;(

  • You can try to use sddm for now, untill the Deepin problem is solved.

  • @bryanpwo I tried that and when I restart my VirtualBox the login screen doesn’t show up. I only see a black screen with a mouse pointer.

  • Okay, I assume you just installed Deepin in virtual box, At first boot Deepin is looking for updates (not Antergos, but Deepin) this can take up to 15 minutes or longer. Just be patient, after a while the words: your system is up to date and Deeepin desktop will appear. This only happens at first boot, after that Deepin will boot up normal.
