• How to set up a Logitech c920 webcam

I need assistance in setting up a Logitech, Inc. HD Pro Webcam C920.

Step (1) Does the system detect the webcam?

    [[email protected] ~]$ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0bc2:ab20 Seagate RSS LLC Backup Plus Portable Drive
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:082d Logitech, Inc. HD Pro Webcam C920
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 045e:028e Microsoft Corp. Xbox360 Controller
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 046d:c31c Logitech, Inc. Keyboard K120
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 046d:c077 Logitech, Inc. M105 Optical Mouse
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Step (2) What module(s) needs to be loaded?

According to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Webcam_setup c920 requires the use of linux-uvc. As of kernel 2.6.26 linux-uvc is part of the kernel. I just need to load the uvcvideo module.

    Step (3) Is uvcvideo loaded?

    [[email protected] ~]$ cat /etc/modules-load.d/webcam.conf
cat: /etc/modules-load.d/webcam.conf: No such file or directory

    [[email protected] ~]$ dmesg|tail
    [ 21.783429] nvidia-modeset: Allocated GPU:0 (GPU-d5274f9a-8143-928c-b862-3bbd6ee7eb7a) @ PCI:0000:02:00.0
    [ 22.724102] fuse init (API version 7.26)
    [ 24.336975] alx 0000:04:00.0 enp4s0: NIC Up: 1 Gbps Full

    [ 88.676415] usb 1-6: reset high-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[ 90.402265] rfkill: input handler disabled
[ 91.400864] EXT4-fs (sdb2): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)
[ 91.764472] EXT4-fs (sdb1): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)
[ 91.795445] EXT4-fs (sdb3): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)
[ 91.832556] EXT4-fs (sdb4): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)

The module is not loaded due to the lack of a webcam.conf file.

How do I set up a webcam.conf file?

  • @Ronnie said in How to set up a Logitech c920 webcam:

    uvcvideo

    lsmod | grep uvcvideo

unplug webcam open terminal start journaling:

    journalctl -f

plug in webcam, and see what journal is talking…

do you try already to see if cam is pushing pictures?

    sudo pacman -S xawtv
    xawtv -c /dev/video0

    xawtv -c /dev/video0

to run it and capture webcam

as it looks like cheese is not working at the moment…
