Videos are not being played properly.
The same problem happens for mkv and mp4 videos.
Has anybody seen this before?

we need more info about hardware and DE (Desktop Environment) to get a clue on what is wrong at your system…
first think you can do is open the videoplayer inside a terminal, and open a second one what is showing live journal:
journalctl -fwhile open a video, you can open by command also like this

nothing related inside journal, and gtk warning from totem is also not relatedto video playback…
can you try installing gnome-mplayer?
sudo pacman -S gnome-mplayer
And try if this one has the same issue…
also take a look what gstreamer plugins are installed:
pacman -Qs gstreamer
gnome-mplayer worked but I wanted to fix totem because i like it more.

By any chance it is true thst you are running on intel graphics and wayland?
If command gives out wayland try login to gnome on Xorg from loginmanager lightdm
Hi, I am having the same issues with Totem (I have audio but black screen),
I have antergos installed on X1 Carbon 3rd gen, However Totem works fine in my antergos VM on the same host.
I switched from lightdm to gdm as lightdm was incompatible with suspend/hibernate.
X11on both host and VM, so I guess issue is not whether wayland or X11 is used.
lspci | grep -i vgayields:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 5500 (rev 09)
Running Totem from terminal on host and VM yields:
Gtk-WARNING **: Drawing a gadget with negative dimensions....so I guess this is irrelevant.
Nothing of note from
pacman -Qs mp4yields:
local/libmp4v2 2.0.0-4 MPEG-4 library
pacman -Qs gstreameryields:
gnome-mplayer plays videos fine.
Totem has been working without issue for ~ 6 months, as it continues to work on the VM, I imagine an update doesn’t agree with my host configuration, though I can see nothing obvious by grepping error from the logs utility,
Would someone be able to point me in the direction to look, regarding logs?
