• Graphics problem

    Hi there

Just ran this as was unable to open Stellarium

    Detected: OpenGL “2.1”
Driver version string: “2.1 Mesa 17.3.1”
GL vendor is “Intel Open Source Technology Center”
GL renderer is "Mesa DRI Intel® Ironlake Mobile "
GL Shading Language version is “1.20”
    MESA Version Number detected: 17.3
Mesa version is fine, we should not see a graphics problem.
    GLSL Version Number detected: 1.2
This is not enough: we need GLSL1.30 or later.
You should update graphics drivers, graphics hardware, or use the --mesa-mode option.
Else, please try to use an older version like 0.12.5, and try there with --safe-mode
You can try to run in an unsupported degraded mode by ignoring the warning and continuing.
But more than likely problems will persist.
    Segmentation fault (core dumped)

    Any advice appreciated
    Thanks, Rick

    How did you install stellarium?
I just installed it and it seems to work well.

  • Try steam runtime (not native).

  • Tried steam runtime. No change

Not worried about Stellarium as such, more that the error message suggests my graphics need upgrading. As a new user, I can’t see any option / way of checking this as like the buntu world I know.

I installed it via add/remove software, and know no other way :)

  • @rickc99
You seem to have an older OpenGL than I have. Have you updated your system lately?

  • @manuel yes mate, it’s a fresh install and everything is upto date. Stumped as to why my Open GL would be old

Is is possible you have some AUR packages that are older then the officially supported in Antergos?

  • Thanks mate. I don’t know, I’ve installed Chrome from AUR but not sure about anything else.

    1. I obviously have an old OpenGL. Is there a way to upgrade it?
    2. Can I somehow list what’s installed via AUR so I can roll back?

    Cheers

  • I’ve uninstalled everything from AUR that I’ve installed, uninstalled Stellarium and then reinstalled. No change.

I take it there’s no option in this distro to view drivers and update them?

    Thanks

  • To see foreign (usually AUR) packages:
    pacman -Qm

By the way, I installed Antergos and stellarium into a VirtualBox virtual machine and it works.
Maybe you could try that? It may be that your hardware is not well supported for stellarium (for some strange reason…).

  • Or one idea is the change the kernel. The LTS kernel can be installed by

    pacman -S --needed linux-lts linux-lts-headers

Then reboot to that LTS kernel.

  • @manuel thanks.

Turns out the kernel is already the latest. I don’t really do gaming but I did install BZflag just to see what happened - and it worked.

  • @rickc99
With the LTS kernel I meant 4.9 which is currently marked as LTS in Antergos, not 4.14 which you probably have now.
But if installing BFflag helps, great!

  • @manuel thanks for the advice. I’ll just leave it now - I use linux for work and the web, and use windows for gaming, so it was all more of a puzzle than a problem. Sounds like my GL will be updated eventually via system updates.

    Cheers
