• DE crashed, taken only to command line on reboot

    Hello everyone!

So far it I’ve enjoyed my Antergos experience, but I’ve run into a slight problem. After restarting my device, it seems as if the DE (KDE in my case) has crashed and will not load. I can still log into the basic command line but here are the errors that have popped out when I logged in.

[4.361868] scsi 1:0:0:1: Wrong diagnostic page; asked for 1 got 0
[4.361999] scsi 1:0:0:1: Failed to get diagnostic page 0x1
[4.362097] scsi 1:0:0:1: Failed to bind enclosure -19

Is there a way to get back into the KDE environment?

I have also found that trying to input startkde results in this line:

$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server.

  • @Mel.Eris
If $DISPLAY is the problem, check its current value with command

    echo $DISPLAY

You can set its value to e.g.

    export DISPLAY=:0

But I guess your machine may have other issues as well. :(

EDIT: do you have an external disk? Try disconnecting it, does your machine work then?

  • @manuel

Yes! I tried removing the external disk last night but it didn’t really help. I ended up scrapping everything and decided to just go for a full re-install as it was fairly fresh, didn’t really mind reinstalling the few programs I had on here. Thank you for the advice though!
