• KDE update from 17.08 to 17.12 issue

    Hi,

Not been using Antergos and KDE long as I moved over from Fedora a few weeks ago. I have just updated from KDE 17.08 to 17.12 and now KMail won’t send emails. I have a Googlemail account and one for my business, and both fail.

As my server is self hosted I checked my logs and it show KMail connecting and then a lost connection meassage after STARTTLS.

My laptop, which thankfully I haven’t updated and is still on 17.08 still works fine.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • I am not a regular kde user and never used kmail but it has to do something with Mail Dispatcher Agent not running

  • Thanks for the response, but the Mail Dispatcher Agent is shown as running in akonadi console and ready to dispatch messages.

  • do you setup mail accounts with using backup files or configured them by hand?
I do some research and there is no known bug at the moment, so i would bet it is mostly something going wrong with configs.
Do you try already to recreate the accounts ?

  • They were set up by hand when I installed Antergos several weeks ago.

All I have done is update from 17.08 to 17.12, nothing else and it was working on 17.08 this morning before the upgrade, and still works fine on my laptop running 17.08.

I’ll try recreating the accounts but it seems ridiculous that an upgrade would cause such a fundamental problem.

  • Antergos has no release canditates… so if you say update from 17.08 to 17.12 you do a complete reinstall of the system, may you left your home partition untouched?
New ISODownloads are done once a month to get new versions of software included, but this is rolling release with no need to update system on new ISO releases, as system is allways updated to the latest aviable software.

  • It was updated through pacman as I was notified of new packages. Are you saying to update between KDE version I need to do a complete reinstall of Antergos?

  • Well now it’s completely broken. I can’t re add my GMail account, it just hangs at authorising token.

  • How about downgrading KMail?

GMail account, it just hangs at authorising token

gmail token is problematic as itself…

No exactly the opposite, you will have the same updates on a system installed with the 17.8 iso, as with 17.12 iso, as it is a rolling release system we do not have thouse release canditates as ubuntu e.t.c.

  • @Jeannie____ do you done this before? ?

@jonnie_r and now i uderstand what you want to say with: 17-08-to-17-12 … we call the ISO 's the same way but what you want to say is kmail versions…:fishing_pole_and_fish:
I was thinking you are talking about versions of the iso Uh ahahah sorry…

  • @joekamprad Apologies for the confusion, yes this is just the most recent KDE update that they released a week or so ago.

@Jeannie____ I don’t really fancy messing about anymore at the moment, I’ll just leave it as it is, I can at least use my laptop to send emails.

If you need a workaround there is a good alternative to kmail:

you can easely install from community:

    sudo pacman -S trojita

  • Thanks for the suggestion, but I’m going to see if there is a fix. There are a couple of issues created on the KDE bugtracker for this problem.
