• Brother Wifi Printer - How To Install

    Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased an HL-L2360DW Printer:

It works fine on my Windows and Apple devices, but I am having issues trying to get it working in Antergos. It looks like Antergos ‘detects’ the printer properly, it just cannot install a driver for it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

    pacaur -S brother-hll2360d
    or yaourt -S brother-hll2360d

    and then:

sudo hp-setup -i may you need to setup the printer first connected to usb and change later to ip connection…

  • @joekamprad

For both USB and NET options I’m getting a: “No device selected/specified or that supports this functionality.” error message.

  • i was wrong >>sudo hp-setup -i<< is for HP printers… but you get a brother ;) so no need for this, you can just add it with printer setup as usual over settings or via webinterface http://localhost:631

When I try to add the printer, it asked me for a username/password (which I wasn’t sure). I put in my antergos credentials, and now I see a “forbidden” message when I try adding the printer.

    Thoughts? TIA.

  • @a4orce84 needs root and your password

  • Getting Closer…

Not sure why it’s still not working properly.

  • Got it working! @joekamprad, do you have a printer hooked up and working with your Antergos install? Had some general questions and wanted to make sure I understood everything correctly.

  • yes! i have some experiences

  • @joekamprad,

So I got the Brother printer working using some steps in the arch wiki. Here are my settings and I think I’m using the correct driver from the AUR also:

Does that look correct? I set it up using the connection set to the printer’s IP address: IPP://<BROTHER IP ADDRESS>

and everything is working now! No garbage text or prints and everything appears to be working without any problems.

However, when it prints it gives me an error message, even though it’s actually working and printing correctly:

The last message you can see ‘document printed’ is correct. I just don’t get why it gives me a ‘printer error’ message in the beginning.

Have you seen anything similar with your printer experience? TIA.

  • @joekamprad – Just following up. Thanks again!

  • It makes me feeling good to help others :)

  • The error message is silly, also because printing works… you can take a look if the printer is able to get a firmware updated (mostly only over windows/mac)

    so there is one…

I recognize on different “modern” printers also if there is no newer firmware, restoring the firmware put the printers an a "as new " state. (also good for printquality problems)

  • Hey @joekamprad,

Looks like the printer already had the latest Major (and Minor) firmware installed on it at time of purchase (refurb from Amazon!). Are you seeing similar behavior with your printer on Antergos?

I’ll do some googling / researching if there is a way to ‘suppress / hide’ that initial printer error message if possible. All I really need is the ‘documented printed’ message as that is the accurate one.
