• Touchpad being detected as a PS/2 Logitech wheel mouse as of recent

    I’m not sure what’s changed, whether it was an update or not, but recently my touchpad stopped working properly on my Asus X555 laptop. Output of libinput list-devices is showing it as a ps/2 Logitech wheel mouse. I’ve been wracking my brain over this for almost an entire day now. Reinstalling doesn’t help. Installing vanilla arch doesn’t help. Any information I can find on the topic refers to it being an issue with focaltech touchpads not having a driver which supposedly has been integrated into mainline as of 4.0 so it shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve tried using linux-lts as well as linux-hardened, linux-lqx, and linux-mainline all to no avail.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Edit: by not working properly I mean in addition to it being detected as a Logitech wheel mouse, no touch gestures are working such as two finger scroll or sidebar scroll.

    Edit2: I should probably add that I’ve tried this with multiple wm/de combinations to no avail, but currently I’m using cinnamon.

    do you try already to add this to grub kernel line?

    sudo nano /etc/default/grub

    add this…
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="psmouse.proto=bare ....
    save file

    sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

    this is a workaround for an older bug with the same problem, so it seems to get back, and will be solved soon. (hopefully)

  • @joekamprad thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this didn’t solve my issue, touch gestures are still refusing to work

    The mouse does seem to consistently be loaded as /dev/input/event15, so I’m wondering if Its possible to write an Xorg config pointing to that event

  • @joekamprad actually correction, it’s being detected as PS/2 generic mouse now as opposed to Logitech and is registered at /dev/input/event12

  • anyone? I’m still at quite a loss, I’ve even tried running probably about 20 different configurations of Antergos as well as Manjaro and vanilla Arch Linux. I’m really hoping I won’t have to drop to a debian-based distro, though I’m not sure that would even help
