    hi everyone
    im a ubuntu user and i wanna install antergos gnome but i have some worries about it. do you know the system requirements for gnome, kde and cinammon? ive 4gb ram and 4210m.

  • welcome @osturk97

    With 4 GB of ram you will not have any problems, but for the doubts to see your graphics card

    inxi -G

    ?

  • @judd ive 840m. sorry for my english

  • @osturk97 said in system requirements:

    4210m

    means = https://ark.intel.com/en/products/81012/Intel-Core-i5-4210M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz ???
    Intel® 64 = Yes
    Instruction Set = 64-bit

    Is not overpowered, but should run good, may you will get problems on watching flashvideo over your browser… and have opened 10 tabs… but if you are happy with ubuntu (Gnome/unity) you will be more with Antergos (ArchBased) as you will have a more minimalistic system! If you want to run GNOME i would give you the tip to uninstall tracker this will increase performance a lot, and if you do not make use of gnome-dokuments gnome-music and gnome-pictures you do not need this…

  • Hello @osturk97.

    System requirements for Linux are hard to establish. They are usually defined by the most resource costly program that you need to use. And contrary to popular belief this is rarely the desktop environment.

    Otherwise they are pretty lax. Very low requirements and the DIY nature of Linux is usually the reason why you don’t see system requirements being listed in much detail on Linux distros websites.

    Machines with just 256MB of RAM can run Arch Linux just fine. You will of course need to use your machine in accordance with this. So, if you have 1GB of RAM, don’t use Gnome or KDE, even though they are well within this limit. Be smart and reduce your operating system memory footprint and leave more room for your programs, with other desktop environments, like Xfce, OpenBox. Or even titling window managers like i3, xmonad or bspwm.

    Antergos does include a graphical installer however, Cnchi. These may sometimes be a problem on low end machines. I am not sure of the memory requirements of this application. It should work fine, I think. In any case, I’m pinging @karasu for more information.

  • @joekamprad yeah i mean the intel cpu and thanks for advice.
    @judd sorry i didnt mention that i am at physics lesson and thought you asked my gpu model.
    @Krugar thankyou for your reply

  • @judd said in system requirements:

    That’s true. Gnome can feel a bit laggy, though. I foresee no problems in Cnchi (I’ve used it in VM with only 2GB with Gnome).

    Cheers!

  • The OP got 800MB, not 4GB.

  • @Krugar 840m means = http://www.nvidia.de/object/geforce-800m-graphics-cards-de.html
    OP say he get 4GB RAM…

    @osturk97 you should read the bumblebee wiki as it looks like you get optimus enabled grakacombi: https://antergos.com/wiki/de/hardware/bumblebee-for-nvidia-optimus/

    Any problem here we are !!!

  • @judd no problem. thankyou

    If you are still lacking confidence @osturk97, then I can assure you that 4GB is plenty:grinning:. I only have that much on my machine, and Antergos Gnome runs just fine on it. I even have enough manpower over here to stream a video while installing software and building my Antergos-Deepin ISO all at the same time!

    Hope this helps, and good luck !!!
