• Running Deepin alongside Gnome 3

    Hello,

Just wondering if anyone is using Deepin alongside with Gnome 3 (same user), and if you are experiencing any issues?

I’m currently running Gnome 3 and thinking to install Deepin alongside to test. I don’t really want to risk breaking my system as I just configured it to the way I need.

I could not find anything in the documentation related to running both together, but I did find some results on the forum that indicates that other people are doing this (https://forum.antergos.com/post/48751).

    Thanks.

  • Hi there:grinning:. I am currently the developer of Antergos-Deepin and am running Deepin alongside Gnome 3 (as the same user ;)). I’ve been doing this for a few months now, and so far have run into zero issues. Just make sure to install ALL the Deepin packages !!! I made that mistake at first and ended up with a control panel that didn’t work. Just run sudo pacman -S deepin deepin-extra to do so.

P.S. almost forgot. For some reason my computer is not reacting very well on Deepin with the newest kernel upgrade. If this affects you too, just use the LTS kernel. With that, all of your issues should be fixed:grinning:.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Keep trying, never give up. In the end, you will find that it was all worth it

Oh wow… that was quick… and by the best person to answer. :)

I will definitely give it a try tonight. And I’m already running LTS (it’s my work computer), so I should be good.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

    Perfect:grinning:.

My pleasure! I’m just glad I saw your thread when I did…

I wish you the best of luck and welcome to the Forum! (Oh, and almost forgot. Make sure to install all the noto-fonts packages. Otherwise, Deepin will have an ugly font when using it alongside Gnome ;)).

    See you around!

    Thanks Keegan.

Btw, I got it installed and it’s working. And the noto-fonts got installed as a dependency of deepin.

Now I just need to figure out how to change a couple of things. Will check the other subforum.

Interesting… it was not this way just a month or so ago. They must have improved it!

If there’s anything I can help you with, just let me know! (It’s why I’m here after all…).
