• Requested Features For Antergos-Deepin

There are several improvements and changes already on the way for Antergos-Deepin 17.10, such as ready to go VPN support, gnome-calculator in the Live Environment, and more wallpapers (from antergos-wallpapers-deepin, thanks to @karasu). So these are the things that are already on their way to be added, but what does the community want? Are there any packages, settings, or changes that people would like to see? I cannot guarantee that I will have the skill or time necessary to fulfill each and every one of them, but I can surely try:grinning:. With that said, what would you like to see in the next release of Antergos-Deepin ??? Here are the packages already installed:

  • @Keegan That’s very nice of you asking/allowing suggestions for new packages!
I’d recommend you to put your packages.both in pastebin so people could check what’s already included, then they can suggest something else.
Go on friend, keep on the good work!

Antergos (default OS) - WIN10 (abandoned)
    I3wm - Mate desktop
    AMD - A4 7300 Radeon graphics
    16 GB ram
    HD 1 TB
    Linux newbie since 06/2016

Interestingly, Antergos no longer has a packages.both. However, It would be a good idea to include the packages.desktop:grinning:. Thank you for the suggestion!

Go on friend, keep on the good work!

Thank you for that encouragement there @fernandomaroto! I am trying!

  • Thank you for your valuable suggestions @Velkerk! I just added gnome-font-viewer and reflector to the list, but will have to think about the others for a little bit.

    Once again, thank you!

  • under clean deepin install we have only 2 theme deepin and deepin-dark so i think we can add few nice theme.

I often visit google+ deepin group and i see on screenshot that they are use “Halo icons” or “paper-icon-theme with paper-gtk”. personally i love material design so i always use paper-icon with nana Flat-Plat theme.

  • Thank you for that great suggestion, @joksik! I just added a paper them, but sadly, Cnchi can not install anything from the AUR. However, I did add gtk-theme-paper, gtk-theme-adapta, adwaita-icon-theme, as well as Antergos’ usual Numix set:grinning:. And now honestly, I think Deepin will have almost all of the theme packages possible installed by default!

    Thank you!

  • no problem. the only one bad thing in deepin is that under “deepin file manager” theme dont work :/ and deepin file manager always have “white background” and as i know deepin devs say that this will not be repaired now and in near future :/

    https://github.com/linuxdeepin/deepin-gtk-theme/issues/7
    https://github.com/linuxdeepin/developer-center/issues/239

so i use another file manager in deepin (nemo, thunar etc.) and set it up to be default in deepin. but can we put this as options during installation? I remember that during the installation is an option to use printers or enable aur so maybe in this window we can add options to enable different file manager? or if not during instalation create simple script on desktop with description for exmaple “change default file manager” few arch distro like arch-labs after install give user folder with scripts for tuning system after installation

  • @joksik said in Requested Features For Antergos-Deepin:

but can we put this as options during installation?

I would love to do this myself, but sadly this change would would appear for everyone, not just those using Deepin, but also those using the normal, official Antergos live ISO. Thus, I do not think that this is up for me to decide, but rather the @developers as that would alter their work also. One of my goals however is to some day fork their version of Cnchi and somehow use that in my ISO instead… if I can do that, then I would be free to change whatever I wanted to for Deepin:grinning:.

Thank you for the suggestion though, and you are not alone! I have been asked this a few times in the past by other users too ;).

  • for me the list with package is almost finish. we can think only to add some package that maybe not everyone use or want to install like:

    • isousb (if somone dont use dd command)
    • Libreoffice (for work)
    • Thunderbird or Evolution (for mail`s)
    • Xarchiver (for .rar, .zip etc)
    • Evince (for .pdf file)
    • Xsane (if someone use scanners probably less than 1% users)
    • Gparted (for resize partition)

otherwise we can think of lighter package like:
    gnome-calculator vs Galculator
    brasero vs xfburn

edit: under installation can you edit some files? if yes you can add to pacman.conf ILoveCandy ;) then your distro will looks different than standard pacman

Cnchi can, in fact, show options depending on the choosen DE ;)

Thus, I do not think that this is up for me to decide, but rather the @developers as that would alter their work also. But if you did this it wouln’t be Antergos anymore… ¿?

  • @karasu said in Requested Features For Antergos-Deepin:

But if you did this it wouln’t be Antergos anymore… ¿?

I’m afraid I don’t understand… why not? I would be using Cnchi just like I used to with just one or two modifications. Cnchi would still work the same way and have the exact same code underneath, with just perhaps one or two files changed. The install process would be the same underneath and everything:grinning:. And I would be using all of your guys’ work for the ISO still. You would still account for 99% of the code!

However, if you think that then it would not be Antergos any longer, then I will not fork it. If this is the case though, do you think that perhaps when you have the time, you could add some file manager options during the installation process of Deepin? (thinking nemo, nautilus, thunar, and the usual deepin-files-manager might be the most wanted/used ;)).

Thank you! (and sorry if i alarmed any of the Antergos @developers:smile:.

Yep! That I can do:grinning:. (Normally. Some files can be tricky).

I have actually done this on my own personal setup before, but didn’t much care for the look of it. However, I can see many people loving it, so I think I’ll add it anyways! Thank you for the suggestion!

    Libreoffice (for work)

That one’s normally installed after installing the system.

    Gparted (for resize partition)

I have that one in my Live system setup, but not in the installed one. However, like you mentioned, there are those who would not want that. Therefore, I think for now I will forgo adding it. However, if there is an outcry at some time in the future to have it, I shall definitely add it then! I just want to do what the community as a whole would want, and not what a few people might desire.

isousb (if somone dont use dd command)
    Evince (for .pdf file)
Xsane (if someone use scanners probably less than 1% users)

The same goes to these packages I think. Thank you though!

  • @joksik said in Requested Features For Antergos-Deepin:

    Thunderbird or Evolution (for mail`s)
    Xarchiver (for .rar, .zip etc)

That one seems useful to add in the system… I think I’ll for go the mail software though as this is Antergos! It’s up to the user what to install! However, most people use one of those options, so perhaps it could be added as an option in Cnchi? As for Xarchiver, that one seems truly useful. I think I shall ask @karasu if he can add it it to the list of installed packages in Cnchi:grinning:.

  • ehh i forgot something :/ first thought: deepin is young distro and many times we must report issue on theirs website/github or on antergos site so maybe a good idea is add some GUI log viewer? because not all people know how read log`s with journalctl or manual in /var. i remember that there is few nice package for this at now i remember only one this from gnome: gnome-system-log or gnome-logs i must check later exact name

  • @joksik said in Requested Features For Antergos-Deepin:

maybe a good idea is add some GUI log viewer?

Great idea:grinning:. I just added gnome-logs to the list:smile:. Perhaps @karasu could add this as a package to be installed by default with Cnchi when installing Deepin?

For now though, it’s been added to my ISO!
