Ha Ha! it is not that hard to install Pure Arch via commands!
And as you say there are good video tutorials for it, and the ArchWiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide

Here’s another issue, Arch will not install…at least to allow the full operation…
at the root prompt , I fdisk it gives me the partionions, then cfdisk, the screen then banks out. I tried both legacy and eufi boots.

    It’s time for a hammer for this POS. );

  • If you have such agressions, feel free to use the hammer, or give it to someone was able to change Ram or harddrive ;)
I would say one of them is kinda death here what you say links to Ram.

Re install windows and link it to kijiji or ebay any one with $500 can have this. I will buy a real laptop with the money.

  • @joekamprad, @judd “Update”: I reinstalled Windows from the recovery disk from HP, the reason I did that was to bring my bios up to date, it was quite a few versions behind. While in windows I created a usb boot disk using rufus. Now when i booted from the usb, i added after “quiet splash, I typed in “nouveu.modeset=1 i915.modeset=1 radeon.modeset=1 acpi_blacklist=vendor amd_iommu=off” and played with a couple of variations of radeon.blacklise=yes or amdgpu.powerplay=1”

It did not seem to mater what combination of those I changed around but it did boot into the live desktop and after cnchi graphical installer updated, i proceeded to choose the language, keyboard, time zone, software add on’s and then the desktop (gnome) and it gave the warning about deleting and loosing data on the hard drive, click ok, the screen go blank and black each time…its as if the ram memory does not have enough left after setting up cnchi, to get the job done.

Just another glitch in this long battle of wits with this “Really Lovely HP Pavilion” :) to get some ideas on moving along to get er done.

My fear is if it does kick in and reformat the HD and runs out of juice to blank screen after that, will I have to start over again? Will not having an os on the drive affect the install of any os?

I see cnchi may be broken so I

    1. After live system boots and Cnchi installer appears, exit the installer.
    2. Press Alt+F2
    3. Input " cnchi-dev "
    4. Press enter
    5. Wait 1-5 minutes while the script updates. The installer will automatically launch once the update has completed.

Same thing as above, it went blank after selecting the desktop.

  • @joekamprad , @judd “Update #2” I gave it one more college try as I did above and this time cnchi-dev took me to the end where the hard drive got re partioned and the files began to install…then the damn screen went black yet again…so I just waited 15 mins or so until all the hard drive lights quit blinking. I reboot via the on off button and holly molly the Antergos splash screen came up… it looked like a normal install but back screen yet again.
I did another reboot only go in to the grub menu options and inserted“nouveu.modeset=1 i915.modeset=1 radeon.modeset=1 acpi_blacklist=vendor amd_iommu=off” . this time I got to the functioning desktop, and while I was going to do the system updates…back screen yet again…my guess is we turned off the radeon in the grub command but part of this goofy gui driver is supplying Compute Cores 4C+6G 1.80GHz. with Installed RAM 12.0 GB (11.4 GB usable) some ram and turning of radeon is somehow affecting that. No guru, just a hunch.

I am too invested now to quit. I am stubborn like that. Come on techies, give an old guy some secrets to fix this please.
