    With an AMD A10-8700P Radeon R6, Compute Cores 4C+6G 1.80GHz. with Installed RAM 12.0 GB (11.4 GB usable)

    Does any one have one of these (Microsoft- loving) Broadcom ethernet card, and AMD Radeon proprietary pigs of a laptop? Have you been able to instal Antergos on it?

    If so please let me know, the only linux version I have successfully installed on it are Ubuntu, Mint, and SuSE it really needs and Arch version on it.

    Yes, to install the driver is:

    $ sudo pacman -S broadcom-wl-dkms

    Thank you I found that driver, the problem is it kernel panics during the install and locks up due to the proprietary video driver requirement, the radeon R6 likes the ATI fglx gears driver, no longer available… I have resorted to Mint 17.3 as it is still availabe on the older versions, for now until I study ways to do this in Antergos. I have used “nomemdest” to get passed this with other linux but then you have to tweak grub each boot and still do not have proper hardware support.

    I think installing from the terminal is the way to go, but that is going to take a ton of research on my part. And at my age time will run out before I learn to do that…LOL

  • Has it proven that it happens with the LTS kernel ???

    It is the video drivers that are the issue, not the kernel. HP is very proprietary and thinks the rest of the world is like Microsoft, so one has to find a way to trick it. On the older versions of Mint and Ubuntu, they still used Ati’s drivers so install was not an issue, but the new ‘replacement’ Ati driver can not be fooled so half way into the install, screen goes black and no more gui. Using nomomdestat in the grub line edited as I said allows gui on some distros, then tweaking after the fact for me is easy. None of the Arch based distro’s get past the black screen no mater what I poke into grub .

    I have to find the secret edit on the grub menu after the splash screen comes up for the install to allow it to go into the gui installer.

    I think this is what we need to try first yes…

    Can you find out more info on your graphics? i find only this:
    http://products.amd.com/de-de/search/APU/AMD-A-Series-Processors/AMD-A10-Series-APU-for-AIOs/A10-8700P-with-Radeon™-R6-Graphics/142
    but i do not know if this is yours…

    May the problem here is that radeon driver is using to boot instead of amdgpu?
    But i do not know if amdgpu is aviable or not here :(

    radeon.blacklist=yes

  • From memory that looks like the right info, I will double check after work tonight. Black listing it makes sense and that is sort of what nomodeset does. Amdgpu is the driver that Ubuntu uses’s and that works. I will try the “radeon.blacklist=yes” to night also.

    I’m going to figure this out with help somehow.

  • so looks like we are on the right direction then :)

    I understand and have set both my legacy and uefi to be the same boot order. Where I get lost is how can you “install” rEFlnd when I can’t get to first base on getting it that far to install. I will give another look it said something about booting from a USB drive which I wouldn’t even know where to start. Thanks @judd

    When we get this figured out, we can make a HP Pavilion iso and corner the market :) world domination of linux on HP.

    Would be easy to do this as we only need the right kernel parameter, or maybe not! it can be goes well only with the right driver installed and enabled …

  • Maybe try a install with a degraded kernel (so I installed Pacbang with OpenBox kernel 4.5.5), and then force it to the current kernel, I do not know. https://sourceforge.net/projects/architect-linux/files/pacbang/

    Here my complete Xorg.O.log from my Pacbang installation:

    Is there a way to force that after we blacklist the radeon???

    Im looking for many options to try if one doesn’t work etc.

    amdgpu

    amdgpu.powerplay=1

    modinfo -p amdgpu

  • @joekamprad I tried may variations of all of the above, what worked somewhat was after quiet splash, I typed in radeon.blacklist=yes adgpu.powerplay=1 hard drive did it’s thing and voila got Antergos to gui on the screen, cnchi.py is ready to go with my command…but the damn mouse is not functioning, and the keyboard is dead too. What a tease…grrrrr I hit control i just because and screen when black. This was from the legacy boot prompt.

  • @gord bad … do you try external keyboard and mouse?

    No, just the keybd and mouse built in. Also I have been unable to duplicate it.

    I am going to attempt to make a bootable USB of the Minimal.iso and see how that goes. Heck I don’t need 3 computers, I am ready to try a vanilla install, suppose I will have to use Arch. There are some good youtubes of how to I can watch on my iMac while playing command line guru on the same desk. After that it’s a sledge hammer on this POS. :)
