• VirtualBox does not boot into Kernel LTS

Hi, I just installed VBox and in the current kernel it works perfect, but not so in the LTS and I throw this screen of error:

0_1501970663534_virtualbox.pngSurely those who use this application has already happened a long time, I always made real installations and now I have decided to try VirtualBox, but hey, “it’s never late when the happiness is good”

    Hi!
check if you have linux-lts-headers installed (install if you don’t have it) and run modprobe vboxdrv

    Hi !

    # modprobe vboxdrv

  • @judd Ok, i never tried to use VB with LTS kernel…
Are you using dkms modules for host and guest?

Maybe try to start vbox service (not sure if is enable by default with LTS):
    sudo systemctl start vboxservice
if this work you can enable for next time:
    sudo systemctl enable vboxservice

I noticed a kernel update this week, maybe is what is causing trouble too (happened before at least)

Enable all services as you mention (enable and start) but still with the same error :(

  • @judd ok, then i don’t know… But i suspect it’s related with the kernel update i mentioned.
Was it working for you before or is the first time you tried to run VB with LTS kernel?

OBS: one other ideai you can try is to run in terminal to see what errors pops up and then try to search on internet directly :(

reboot and try modprobe vboxdrv again

i’m gonna boot LTS kernel here too and see if is working, i’ll be back…

  • Only to clearify:

virtualbox-host-dkms instead of virtualbox-host-modules-arch are needed if you are using LTS Kernel.

    sudo pacman -S virtualbox linux-lts-headers virtualbox-host-dkms

and sudo modprobe vboxdrv is the way to install virtual box for LTS Kernels!

  • @joekamprad said in VirtualBox does not boot into Kernel LTS:

    virtualbox-host-modules-arch

There is no way to install it and I had problems installing antergos, maybe @joekamprad is right, now; How can I do to install that package if it has conflicts?

Also uninstall everything, I never just put VBox to the point, I get tired of denying …

  • @judd virtualbox-guest-dkms is only if you want to run Archlinux as Guest and can not be installed together with virtualbox-host-dkms …

virtualbox-host-modules-arch are only if you are running latest Kernel, it does not work with LTS Kernel (afaik)
