• Sudo Gedit problem

    [[email protected] ~]$ sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
    No protocol specified
    Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

    (gedit:1760): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0

    is this an error or design?

  • If you’re using gedit, you’re probably using Gnome 3. If you’re using Gnome 3, you’re probably using GDM. If you’re using GDM, you’re probably run on Wayland, the default session type for GDM.

    Simple sudo, with traditional syntax, doesn’ t work on Wayland.

    Your command on Wayland should be entered as:

    xhost +local: && sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
