• Can't set Chromium as the default browser

    I’m experiencing an issue after installing Chromium.

    It isn’t the default browser, and when I click “Set Default” after it opens, it doesn’t register (logging out or rebooting will cause Chromium to prompt again that it isn’t the default browser). Going into settings and clicking “Make Default” doesn’t seem to do anything.

    Any thoughts on how to fix this?

  • Hm we have this before opposite… users want to change default from chromium to another one…

    So you do not enable chromium on installation, and install it later?

    what gives you:
    cat /etc/environment
    cat /etc/profile
    env|grep BROWSER

  • What is your current default browser in your system?

  • @joekamprad, here are the results of the commands you requested (I removed the commented sections with a # at the start of the line). It looks like the mimeapps.list is still pointing to Firefox?

    [[email protected] ~]$ cat /etc/environment

    [[email protected] ~]$ cat /etc/profile
    umask 022
    export PATH
    if test -d /etc/profile.d/; then
    for profile in /etc/profile.d/*.sh; do
    test -r “$profile” && . “$profile”
    unset profile

    if test “$PS1” && test “$BASH” && test -z ${POSIXLY_CORRECT+x} && test -r /etc/bash.bashrc; then
    . /etc/bash.bashrc

    unset TERMCAP

    unset MANPATH
    [[email protected] ~]$ cat ~/.config/mimeapps.list

    [Default Applications]
    [[email protected] ~]$ cat ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
    [[email protected] ~]$

  • @bpoerwo according to this screenshot, it’s supposed to be Chromium.

  • @JesseDuBord i see @joekamprad is already helping you, but i know that there are other config files somewhere else, for exemple .bashrc (and .zshrc if you use it) with antergos configuration (probably already pointing to chromium)

    Ops! i guess what i just told you is more related to “Open with browser x, y etc”

  • @JesseDuBord said in Can't set Chromium as the default browser:

    [[email protected] ~]$ cat ~/.config/mimeapps.list
    [Default Applications]

    there you have firefox…
