• USB Hard Drive Slows WiFi

So since moving to a laptop I have now noticed when I plug in my external USB 3.0 hard drive into the laptop my WiFi slows to a halt…takes a long time to load anything.

    It’s clearly this causing it - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/universal-serial-bus/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.html

My question is how exactly do I fix or improve this? I do also have a USB-C to 4 port USB hub plugged in with a wireless mouse receiver and USB speakers. They both seem to have no issues. I am not currently sure if the drive and WiFi works fine without the hub plugged in…

I am running Antergos KDE on the System76 Galago Pro i7 version.

  • @noobertroon Use 5 GHz if your router supports it??

  • Oh that’s a good idea.

It’s also a good thing my system and router are in the same room which is small because I know that 5Ghz sucks at any distance.

That being said…is there another solution if say someone does not have 5Ghz ability?

I have a hard time believing that Intel and these companies have pushed something out that has this issue and can’t or isn’t fixing?
