• Desktop Email Program

    Hey,

I am looking for a program built for KDE (QT) for email.

I have tried KMail and don’t like it. The biggest issue there is that emails are not threaded. I want to click on an email and in the preview/loading area it shows all messages back and forth.

I have tried Trojita as well. It has the same issue as well as many others. Emails don’t display correctly, some emails don’t open and a few other problems.

I have also tried Kube which is just simply too early in development to really use, isn’t fully built yet.

The email program I like and have been using is Geary but with it being GTK it is out of place. It also has crashing issues and times where it will not even open for some reason.

So… any email programs out there built on QT that people recommend?

Are you kidding? KMail can aggregate and sort mail in threads like no other mail client can do.

Menu --> View --> Message List --> Aggregation:

    • Activity by Date, Flat
    • Activity by Date, Threaded
    • Current Activity, Flat
    • Current Activity, Threaded
    • Flat Date View
    • Senders/Receivers, Flat
    • Standard Mailnig List, Threaded
    • Thread Startes
    • Configure… (aggregate mail any way you prefer)

Menu --> View --> Message List --> Sorting:

    • the list is too long to post it here

I guess you’re talking about simple Standard Mailing List aggregation mode.

  • I have an option for Standard Mailing List but it does not show “,threaded” beside it and does not appear to do what I want.

I set that, I click on an email and see only the single email, my replies are not included.

  • Take a look at 23 KMail alternatives, listed by alternativeTo.

  • So you are saying that isn’t possible then?

having a real thread, with my replies within it like it should be?

  • For many years I have not used an application for mail, I only use mail depends on the hiring of the internet, I use the e-mail portal that gives me internet.
The last thing I use and is easy to install was Mozilla’s Thunderbird.

  • Hi!

Franz-bin works nicely to connect all of your online accounts (including e-mail). I don’t have much of any experience with it though, but it seems to work great and does NOT look out of place in KDE.

Well, there went my two cents:smile:. Don’t know if this helped or not, but I thought I would just throw it out there. Hopefully you can find what you’re looking for!

  • It’s a nice suggestion but not really something I would do.

I only see Gmail as an option, not other email and it being mostly a chat program I have a hard time seeing that the emails would be displayed correctly or having all the needed options.

The second thing that bothers me is it does not appear to be open-source or anything like that. I tend to stay away from anything that isn’t.

I had no idea… I just assumed it was. (I’m not actually using it, I’ve only heard of it and thought it might help you out here).

  • I’m marking this solved for the time being.

The only two options is Trojita which isn’t the way I want my emails managed but maybe I can live with for the time being.

Then Kube is going to be awesome but needs a lot of work, so waiting on that to be completed.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

  • Thank you and good luck! I hope Kube is finished soon:slight_smile:.
