• Virtual keyboard

    Hi,
I’m knew on this forum. I use antergos with gnome3 on a yoga2.
Everything works fine except the virtual keyboard. When I press the space bar of this keyboard, nothing appends.
I don’t have any problems with the physical keyboard.
    Thank you for your returns.

  • @logly Just trying to make sure I understand what you’re asking… When you press the space bar on the virtual keyboard nothing happens?

    Sys01: Antergos + Mate; GTX 1070 + nvidia package :)
Sys02: Antergos + Mate on Surface Pro 3

  • @logly yes we need more info to help here:
only space does not work? or the irtual keyboard does not work at all?

  • Thank you for your replies.
The virtual keyboard works everytimes except when I want to write in the adress bar (I have to press a letter two times to write it in firefox) but it’s not very important. The big problem is that the space bar never works.
If I want to make a ressearch in firefox, I just can write one word. It’s the same if I want to write in a libreoffice document.

  • This looks like there is a shortcut that reserves the space button?
You can check this inside gnome-settings > keyboard

  • No, the space bar is never used alone. I just have super+space and Alt+space.

  • O.K. but it is may causing the issue, so try to reset this shortcuts and see if it helps, i do not find any problem like this for virtual keyboard.

  • Not sure if you’ll consider installing another kind of virtual keyboard a solution for you… I don’t use so i can’t recommend you one…

Antergos (default OS) - WIN10 (abandoned)
    I3wm - Mate desktop
    AMD - A4 7300 Radeon graphics

  • @joekamprad It doesn’t change anything.

  • xev

inside terminal and pressing the space key inside your virtkeyboard can show also some info…

  • @fernandomaroto This one is well integrated but I will try. Thanks

  • @joekamprad I try with xev and I have :

MappingNotify event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x0,
    request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 8, count 248

  • KeyRelease event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x3800001, root 0x294, subw 0x0, time 904529, (334,-153), root:(1295,430), state 0x0, keycode 65 (keysym 0x20, space), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (20) " " XFilterEvent returns: False

Is what it should give you after pressing space
