• How long to install

    Hi all.
First time Antergos user. I’ve used Manjaro for some time and wanted to try Antergos.

I’ve filled in all I should and chose Openbox as my DE but now the installer just goes around and around and it says updating multilib database, but it has been standing on 100 % for about 20-25 minutes now. Is this normal? Does it take this long to install or am I missing something here?

it’s been like this for over 30 minutes now

If you view the post you could take the time to answer how long a installation should take!!!

See if I ask at Manjaro Forum if they can give me an answer quicker than you can here?!

edit 2; Nobody here to answer ? I go to manjaro and get answers right away and this is not even their distro. How about to help a noob out?

  • Hi,

No it’s not normal. There must be something wrong with some mirror, but I’m not sure.

For God’s sake, it’s Saturday morning… we have our own life, too.
Bear in mind that Manjaro has a wider user base, so it’s normal that you get fast answers there. We spend time developing our Installer, they simply use ours (with some modifications of their own, of course).

  • First of all thank you very much forthe answer! Appreciated.

Secondly, it was not my intention to be rudee or anythig like that , I just was frustrated over 9 -10 people viewed the post and couldn’t write a simple yes or no. I’ve serched the forum a littl bit and I’ve seen others hve used several hours when downloading openbox. Yuo must comment out certain things before you start installing. thats the Arch way as I understand it. So that thread should b a stickie on the first page for all us newcomers to see.

Anyways, I’m deeply sorry if you in any way feel offendede by my frustration. You said it was early moorniing here it’s 16.05 so sometimes I don’t think things trough obviously. Hope you accept my apology

    Greetings from Norway

edit; see you’re from catalonia. Barca takes the trophy tonight

    edit2; found the thread [http://forum.antergos.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1293][0]">viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1293

  • Well, sorry for being a bit harsh. Bad week.

I’ll do some tests right now to see if something is broken.

    Força Barça!!!

    Cheers!

  • you think the thread i posted a link to is irrelevant?

  • you think the thread i posted a link to is irrelevant?

Absolutely not. As that thread you posted says, it’s a mirror problem. Have you tried editing /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist ?

You can automatically generate a mirrorlist using reflector:

    sudo pacman -S reflector
    sudo reflector -l 40 -p http -f 10 --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

And this is my /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist: (sorry for the long post)

    Server = http://repo.antergos.com/$repo/$arch

    \# Autodetect your closest mirror
    \#Server = http://mirrors.antergos.com/$repo/$arch

    \# China
    \#Server = http://mirror.bjtu.edu.cn/cinnarch/$repo/$arch

    \# Czech Republic
    \#Server = http://mirrors.nic.cz/antergos/$repo/$arch

    \# France
    \#Server = http://cinnarch.polymorf.fr/$repo/$arch

    \# Greece
    \#Server = http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/antergos/$repo/$arch

    \# England
    \#Server = http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/repo.antergos.com/$repo/$arch

    \# Germany
    \#Server = http://cinnarch.limun.org/$repo/$arch
    \#Server = http://mirror.de.leaseweb.net/antergos/$repo/$arch

    \# Netherlands
    \#Server = http://mirror.nl.leaseweb.net/cinnarch/$repo/$arch
    \#Server = http://ftp1.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/antergos/$repo/$arch
    \#Server = http://ftp2.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/antergos/$repo/$arch

    \# Spain
    \#Server = http://softlibre.unizar.es/cinnarch/$repo/$arch

    \# USA
    \#Server = http://mirror.us.leaseweb.net/antergos/$repo/$arch
    \#Server = http://repo.antergos.info/$repo/$arch
    \#Server = http://mirror.umd.edu/antergos/$repo/$arch
    \#Server = http://mirrors.acm.wpi.edu/antergos/$repo/$arch

As you can see, I’m now using

    Server = http://repo.antergos.com/$repo/$arch

but in theory the closest mirror to your location should be the best.

  • Remember to do a

    sudo pacman -Syy

    after updating the mirrorlist files

  • I’ll try this.
Before I often had better results with mirrors in Holland than in Sweden even they’re much closer so I guess it’s not written in stone. But I will try this solution and again Thank You Very Much and good luck with the game tonight Barca all the way

And again my apologies for coming out a bit rude and impatient. I really appreciate the help

  • Yes! this was something else. Now I can see that it it downloading and not just standing at 100 %. Thanks

  • Glad to hear it!

    I’ll continue watching the game

    Cheers!

You shouldn’t take the post view counter so literal. I’d estimate that close to 60% of the views counted (possibly more) are not from real users but are actually from automated spam web bots.

    Cheers!

  • It can also be other people who have yet to install Antergos, and simply would not know the answer.

    Welcome to Antergos, pjhalsli!
