• Trouble installing on Thinkpad T440p

    Hello my dear Linux friends,

I’m having serious trouble starting the installer of Antergos 17.7 (64 bit).
My machine is a Thinkpad T440p, with Windows 10 installed.
The (unsuccessful) booting of the installer gives the following output:

[...] Error parsing PCC subspaces from PCCT
[...] ACPI Error: Needed type [Reference], found [Integer] ... (20170119/exresop-103)
[...] ACPI Exception: AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE, While resolving operands for [OpcodeName unavailable] (20170119/dswexec-461)
    [...] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_PR.CPU0._PDC] (Mode ...), AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE (20170119/psparse-543)
[...] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page found
[...] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
ERROR: '/dev/disk/by-label/ANTERGOS' device did not show up after 30 seconds...
       Falling back to interactive prompt
You can try to fix the problem manually, log out when you are finished
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off

What (the F?!#) is going on? Can you help me? Thanks in advance.

  • UEFI vs BIOS
The T440s has SecureBoot and UEFI enabled by default. Unless you know you want to use UEFI, it’s simpler to get Arch installed if booting is switched to BIOS-only. In the BIOS/EFI menu, set booting to “Legacy only” (which uses BIOS emulation instead of EFI).

  • @joekamprad Thanks for the suggestion. I did set booting to “Legacy only”, but it still doesn’t work, although the menu of UNetbootin now appears.
    I get the following errors:

    Loading /ubninit.........ready.

  • I believe the problem is UNetbootin. I know the Antergos Wiki directly discourages using it. Apparently, problems like yours can arise with it. Instead, I would recommend Rufus or Etcher (or something else from the article I linked to here).

    Hope this helps!
