Didn’t know GNOME had such a bad rep. I like it because it suits me for my basic needs, although I wish I could switch to i3wm. I’ve heard a lot about it but the README for a GitHub repo called Antergosi3 (which supposedly makes it easier to put i3 on Antergos specifically) is overwhelmingly complicated and doesn’t even work for me, so I’ll stick to GNOME for now. It may not be the most favored DE but it sure as hell just plain works.

  • I dont get what all the fuzz is about. Use snaping sides and corners in gnome along with shortcuts …

  • @izznogooood I did manage to finally get i3 to work. I agree, it doesn’t bring a lot of new stuff to the table, DE-wise. It’ll be GNOME for me for a while.

  • As my daily driver I prefer KDE, mostly because of Dolphin. I have Gnome installed for troubleshooting for my dad’s system, in case he has a question, on my old laptop.
Despite my preference, I must admit that Gnome is much more user-friendly, especially for people who just want a system that’s ready to go from the start.
Recently I installed @fernandomaroto i3 version and it’s growing on me, still learning, but my fondness is growing by the day.

So what are you beginning to like about i3 then, @bpoerwo?

    My opinion exactly😀.

  • @Keegan I like the efficiency that tiling mode brings. I know you can (sort of) achieve the same effect in other DE’s, but somehow in i3 it looks and feels more productive.
The other upside for me is that I stopped tinkering my daily DE for now, so there’s no breaking the system on my behalf…which never happened to me, it was always the system-update…🤥

It surely does seem like a useful feature!

so there’s no breaking the system on my behalf…which never happened to me, it was always the system-update…🤥

Of course! Those sytem updates can be terrible😄. And they always just happen to break your system after you’ve been tinkering… guess how I know! This seems to happen to me every few months !!!

  • NOTE TO THOSE UNSURE ABOUT TRYING ANTERGOS: this discussion of system updates “breaking” your OS was a sarcastic joke !!! It’s not actually true! @bpoerwo and I just tinker a bit too much with our systems all too often😄.

Just thought I would ease any doubts others may have here!

  • I wanna blame gnome 3 developers and especially the ones that work in the development of Nautilus they hardcoded the hard disk/partition that hosts the OS as “Computer” maybe they dont know what Computer means… so i ll e-mail the definition of Computer at [email protected] and maybe into their #Nautilus IRC channel at irc.gnome.org
