• USB Drive

I plug in my USB drive, but cannot locate it. Where is it found? Using KDE
    Plasma.

  • @rosswmcgee If it is mounted, in Arch Linux, openSUSE, Fedora it is found in the

    /run/media/username

    directory.

If USB device is labeled, its content is visible in the

    /run/media/username/devicelabel

    directory.

An example. My user name is just. I plug in an USB stick labeled JustDuo. It is visible in the

    /run/media/just/JustDuo

    folder:

    ┌──[just]@[alexarp]:~$
    └─> ls /run/media/just/JustDuo -lha
    total 192K
    drwxr-xr-x 7 just users 32K Jan 1 1970 .
    drwxr-x---+ 3 root root 60 Jul 7 07:14 ..
    drwxr-xr-x 16 just users 32K Jul 7 07:15 alx
    drwxr-xr-x 4 just users 32K Oct 4 2016 Android
    drwxr-xr-x 2 just users 32K Apr 15 13:30 lia
    drwxr-xr-x 2 just users 32K Oct 2 2015 LOST.DIR
    drwxr-xr-x 2 just users 32K Aug 17 2016 vic
    ┌──[just]@[alexarp]:~$
    └─>

In Debian devices are currently mounted under /media mount point. Debian doesn’t place media in the /run folder:

    /media/username/devicelabel

    The same example in Debian:

    ┌──[just]@[alexdbp]:~$
    └─> ls /media/just/JustDuo -lha
    total 196K
    drwxr-xr-x 7 just just 32K Jan 1 1970 .
    drwxr-x---+ 3 root root 4.0K Jul 7 07:55 ..
    drwxr-xr-x 16 just just 32K Jul 7 07:15 alx
    drwxr-xr-x 4 just just 32K Oct 4 2016 Android
    drwxr-xr-x 2 just just 32K Apr 15 13:30 lia
    drwxr-xr-x 2 just just 32K Oct 2 2015 LOST.DIR
    drwxr-xr-x 2 just just 32K Aug 17 2016 vic
    ┌──[just]@[alexdbp]:~$
    └─>

  • @just

I have several different usb drives not labled. I just want to plug them in and see the contents. Why is this so hard? I really like Antergos but this is a game changer if I cannot easily view my USB drives. So thanks for the help but for me its above my tech level.

  • @rosswmcgee usually they will showup inside your filebrowser, Antergos has nothing special here @just only give you the full answear, to make you understand what is under the hood.

  • @joekamprad Thanks for help. I was in trouble trying to find a good answer.

  • I have solved the problem,by opening media devices and checking the
automatic option. Now when I insert the usb drive a popup appears on my plasma desktop which allows me to open the usb drive and view its
contents. Thanks every one for your replies.
