• Black screen after using nvidia-installer

I used Nvidia-installer and it messed up my whole computer. I see a black screen after reboot.

I tried removing nouveau manually and installing nvidia nvidia-utils and libgen to try and troubleshoot, but that didnt fix it… still black screen. when i try nvidia-xconfig it gives an error saying it cannot find it

How do I revert the damage done by nvidia-installer script without having to re-install and lose everything.

    Thanks!

  • A black screen on linux is mostly not say that your system is coirrupted.

nvidia-installer has the option to do a install in both sides…
installing nvidia and setup and installing nouveau and setup.

It has also a testing mode to check for error before real install.

  • Wow. nvidia-installer -n did the trick! Back to working with nouveau drivers

I am on a gtx 1040 for laptops, but I don’t think nvidia-installer recognizes my card… so i did a force install, which caused the black screen.

  • You need bumblebee for that laptop. installing only the nvidia driver will give you a black screen, as the system will start up on the integrated intel graphics chip.

Couldn’t find a driver suitable for your graphics card

    https://antergos.com/wiki/uncategorized/bumblebee-for-nvidia-optimus/

    lspci -vnn | grep '\''[030[02]]'

If this is giving you two lines with two cards you are on optimus
