• Fakeaccounts grow like mushrooms?

Seems a lot of unusual comments and posts comming up by new user accounts.
Mostly only copy paste something out of a treat, or linking to windows software…
I just started to erase this messages…
Can we do something about it, other than follow them and get them?

Maybe make it required to post at a “hello everyone” treat first?

That sounds like a great idea, even if there weren’t fake accounts being made:slight_smile:.

  • I have not noticed any “fake accounts” however, could you maybe post a link to an example of a thread the likes of what you are describing?

    Thanks!

  • Shure, we do not want to paint a dark one on the wall;)
maybe they are only from another “planet”!

But this will make it easy to track, if i am signed to this treat i can see what new users are posting then…

  • @joekamprad
    Hi!
I’m not looking the forum very often and so far i saw no weird topics, i guess you deleted them before i get the chance to see them :p

  • I see this in the last week, not as topics they try to get into topics, to get known as regular users, for what ever

  • Hi,

    @joekamprad

I’ve deleted all users you’ve flagged. Other than this, I do not know if nodebb has some plugin or any option to help detect this.

I know we can activate registration by aproval, but this would take too much time from us.

I think we have nearly 8000 users (not all active, of course) but it’s difficult to control it…

That sounds like a great idea, even if there weren’t fake accounts being made:slight_smile:.

This decision is not to be taken lightly because it’s gonna hurt new user account creation without any doubt. Many user will not create new account if we force them to create an hello everyone thread. I’m pretty sure most user’s create there account because they need help in the first place. In my case I created an account because I’ve found a thread I wanted to participate in. Maybe I would not have create an account if I had to create an hello everyone first. The first step to have a great and deep community is to make account creation simple and accessible.

But, I think the idea to try to bring all new users to create hello everyone post is very great one! I think first step should be to create a new category named something like “New user corner”, “Hello world zone”, “Say hello Antergos”. Second step could be a welcome message talking about creating a presentation message in the “New user corner”.

Now, if you take the decision to do something like that, you have to be willing to be very dedicated to answer new user presentation post. Because if you’re not you will end up with a bunch of “Hello world” post with nobody answering to them and that’s not sending a good message to your new users.

If you’re willing to answer new users post and you don’t make it mandatory, I think this is a great idea. Otherwise, I think you should pass.

  • I just threw my question into the room, it’s not that I think the idea is right!
But it is a good way to start a discussion to ask a bit “harshly”. ;)

I think i totally agree with @iSpeakVeryWell to keep it simple to participate in the first place.
As you say also for developing it is more easy to do not have to much technical burdens on both sides.

And also i agree 110% ! i think this is what Antergos is about, we do not know stupid question, and we believe everybody can use and understand Antergos.

Hey! That was a very great idea!! I just wasn’t sure about the part were it had to be mandatory! :p But for the rest, I totally agree with it! Could be very nice to orient the new user’s towards creating a presentation post!

  • A few weeks ago I disabled my super awesome spambot thwarting registration question. That cannot be a coincidence. The registration question had been active for over a year and not one spambot was able to beat it. However, the question is so awesome that it sometimes confuses real humans as well. Thus I decided to disable it to see how things would go. I’ll turn it back on now
