• Updating problem: "failed to prepare transaction"

Pacman seems not working due to some dependency problem. Please see screenshot.

    Thanks for your help.

  • both packages from AUR so they need to changed to fit the update of perl…

    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/perl-gnome2-wnck/

    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/perl-gtk2-unique/

depending on what you are using them you can remove them, update system end rebuild against new perl.

    pacmanager-bin
    pacmanager-git
    shutter
    xdg-traymenu (requires perl-gtk2-unique) (optional)
    gmusicbrowser-git (requires perl-gnome2-wnck) (optional)
    gmusicbrowser-shimmer-git (requires perl-gnome2-wnck) (optional)
    perlpanel
    perlpanel-git

It seems we face a major perl update (50 or 60 packages). I’ll wait a little while before uninstalling something…

  • In these cases, I suggets using pacman for the update. Sometimes, pamac causes problems for some reason.

  • I have removed the affecting Perl packages as @joekamprad said and I could update. Actually I think those packages were some leftovers of Shutter.

  • Hi

I could uninstall the seven offending packages only by beginning to uninstall Shutter. Once they were all uninstalled, I could install all the 95 upgrade packages without problem.

However, I have been unable to reinstall Shutter (compilation of some obscure package failed) and had to choose another software to perform screenshots. I chose deepin-screenshot which is OK, though not so nice as Shutter was.

  • Interesting…

I had absolutely none of the programs installed that @joekamprad mentioned, and yet this morning I had this perl issue. However, tonight after I rebooted my computer, I was able to update successfully:slight_smile:

    hmmm…

Well, at least the problem is now solved (for me):grinning:

  • @roger64 please see this thread about shutter.

    https://forum.antergos.com/topic/6052/gnome-vfs-conflicting-package

I recommend using default gnome-screenshot. Not as advanced as shutter but it does the job.

  • there was a discussion here with interest on screencast and shot: https://forum.antergos.com/topic/6306/screen-recorder-screenshot-and-video

  • @ase11 , joekamprad

Thanks for the alternative links. I’ll certainly have a look at.

Yes, it seems that Shutter stopped its active development two or three years ago. It makes use of a lot of dependencies which makes it very hard to maintain.

I wonder if it would not be useful to “freeze” it as an Appimage… I know already that I can use Krita this way, though I am not a KDE user.

  • First, a big thank you goes to the entire Antergos community for their fine work. Note where Antergos is now in the Distrowatch.com top ten standing. That speaks volumes for your sterling work! I take my hat off to you.

Regarding this current thread I am singing from the same hymnal. Here’s what I get for pacman terminal output:
[[email protected] ~]$ sudo pacman -Syyu
    [sudo] password for dts:

Please review and advise as to a remedy. I haven’t been able to update for several days now. “Good things come to those who wait.” ;) Kind Regards. – Dietrich

  • @dtschmitz do you have shutter installed too?

  • @joekamprad I uninstalled. The pacman output is the same.

  • @dtschmitz you still have the unneeded deps from shutter caus you are using pamac for uninstalling without the deps then…
    you can use something like:

$ sudo pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq)

but it is not sure to do not harm your installation…

    or this …

    $ sudo pacman -R perl-gtk2-unique perl-gtk2-imageview perl-goo-canvas perl-gnome2-wnck gnomecanvas-perl gnome-vfs-perl gnome-perl

  • I used yaourt to reinstall shutter, then yaourt -R and then followed with yaourt -R for all of the unneeded dependencies. I’m now able to run sudo pacman -Syyu to normal completion. Thank you!!

  • @dtschmitz thats also a way to solve maybe more secure and easy!

  • I gave a description for how I solved the issue. It’s up to the forum admins to mark this issue solved. – Dietrich

  • I believe if you look at the lower right corner, you will see a button that says “Topic Tools”. From there, you can celect “Mark as Solved”.

    Hope this helps:slight_smile:
