• Touch pad not clicking, only tapping

Since the last few updates, my touch pad started displaying a weird behavior.

I can’t seem to left or right click without trying many times, but tapping works just fine. I know it’s a driver issue, since it was working properly before and it also works when I run the live media.

It seems the touch pad is recognized by the system as Synaptics s3203 (/dev/input/event15), if that helps.

Also the touch pad looks just like this one: https://i.imgur.com/jk67cvy.jpg

I’d be grateful if anyone had a solution for this.

  • Hi!

I don’t know if this will help, but I do know that since the devs of Gnome decided to switch out Synaptics for xf86-input-libinput, several others have been having sissues (myself included). This post might help you if this is indeed the issue.

    Hope this helps🙂

  • @A-User I’m a Cinnamon user, maybe that affects both? Since Cinnamon was originally a GNOME fork.

I decided to try and format my laptop, since the touch pad works fine in the live CD. When I booted the installed system for the first time though, it had the same annoying issue. I’m guessing it’s some package update that is messing me up.

I’m gonna look into the packages mentioned in the post you linked.

  • Okay, I uninstalled “xf86-input-synaptics” and checked that “xf86-input-libinput” is indeed installed, I still can’t use my left click without tapping or right click without double tapping. :/

  • I had to reboot my laptop for it to work, instead of just logging out and then back in.

    Hope this helps🙂

  • I did try that without success. :/

  • I don’t know what to say then, except to maybe post your problem in the post I mentioned earlier as several experienced users have commented there, and so you might receive more help there than here🙂

    Wish I could help more😀
