• Which laptop is better for Antergos?

    Hello,

My name is Carlos. I am thinking about buying a new laptop and I would like to install Antergos on it. I have read that there are some problems with Graphics Card with Optimus technology. That is why I decided asking you before making the decision.

I have these three options and I would really appreciate if someone could help me:

    Option 1:

    ASUS K501UQ 15.6"
    Intel® Core™ i5-6200U Processor
    RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 1 TB HDD & 16 GB SSD
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX

    Option 2:

    ASUS ZenBook UX310 13.3"
    Windows 10
    Intel® Core™ i7-6500U Processor
    RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 500 GB HDD & 256 GB SSD

    Option 3:

Optimus Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD IPS LED Widescreen (1920x1080)Processor
    Intel® Core™ i7 Quad Core Processor 7700HQ (2.8GHz, 3.8GHz Turbo)
    Memory (RAM)8GB Corsair 2133MHz SODIMM DDR4 (1 x 8GB)
    Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 - 2.0GB GDDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.11st

Hello and welcome to antergos !!!

It is very personal what you ask, for price and tastes … but I would choose the option I put up. Whatever you choose, they are good machines, and you have a lot of luck and above all, enjoy it !!!

    Mis respetos.-

  • @judd Thank you very much for your reply and your help !!!

I know the decision is very personal but all of them are great laptops for my purpose.

I am worried about the possible problems I could have installing Antergos in some of these machines. That is why I would like to know the community opinion.

Thank you very much and I am wishing to start with Artengos.

This one, 'cause it’s more powerful, has better specs overall, has a big screen (otherwise option 2 would also have been okay), and as for the compatibility, the Intel GPU would work fine and is sufficient for most normal daily use. I don’t know about the Bumblebee sofware stability though. In any case, if you’d dual boot, you’d have enough power for graphic hungry software 'cause of that Nvidia gpu

The rest works out of the box of course.
