• LightDM error in current theme + Pacman fails to retrieve antergos.db

Instead of the login screen I get a message reading:
“An error was detected in the current theme that could interfere with the system login process.”

    I’m given three options:
“Load Default Theme”: clicking on this just brings the message again.
“Load Fallback Theme”: clicking on this changes he background theme but still brings the message.
“Cancel”: closes the message but no login screen.

I can login as root through the terminal. Not sure what to do there though. I was going to installing gdm and see if that lets me login which lead me to the next issue: Pacman can’t seem to connect to the mirrors. I checked and my internet connection is not the issue.

    Pacman messages:

error: failed retrieving file 'antergos.db' from mirrors.antergos.com : Resolving timed out after 10522 milliseconds
error: failed retrieving file 'antergos.dg.sig' from sourceforge.net : expected download size exceeded

    Interrupt signal received

Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Even if it’s just a temporary fix allowing me to login.

  • You can stop lightdm by:

    systemctl stop lightdm

and then make use of startx… but you need a working .xinitrc in your /home"USER" directory…

    But

    expected download size exceeded

should be temporarly and may you can install now…

Also possible is to edit /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist
and comment the failing mirrors out:

    ### ###
    ## ##
    # Automated Mirror Selection #
    ## ##
    ### ###

    #Server = http://mirrors.antergos.com/$repo/$arch
    #Server = http://sourceforge.net/projects/antergos/files/mirror/$repo/$arch

    then do a pacman -Syy

And may you do some changes to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf or /etc/lightdm/lightdm-webkit2-greeter.conf ???
reset to default may solve the issue…

You can take a look to what went wrong if you want:

    systemctl status lightdm

    journalctl /usr/bin/lightdm

    cd /var/log/lightdm
    ls

    there you find:
    lightdm.log lightdm.log.old seat0-greeter.log seat0-greeter.log.old x-0.log x-0.log.old

    cat lightdm.log

    e.t.c. show the files…

  • Unfortunately none of this worked. I still get the download size exceeded message and it fails for all of the mirrors (I tried all of them) in my mirror-list.

If I just try installing a package with pacman this is what I get:

error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/antergos.db: Unrecognized archinve format

I also get the same error for each of core.db, extra.db, community.db, and multilib.db.

  • @tip3r said in LightDM error in current theme + Pacman fails to retrieve antergos.db:

error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/…

    $ sudo rm -R /var/lib/pacman/sync/
    $ sudo  pacman -Syu

  • Hello,
I’m new to Linux and this is my very first install. It is so liberating to be free from the Microsoft chains.
Any who, I wanted to add that I too saw the same message after my install. I selected “Load Default Theme” , the log in screen came up and all appears to be okay for now…fingers crossed.
    Cheers all.

  • @RetroGal welcome to Antergos then! and this should not be harming your system…

my first advice for the forum: if it is not exactly your problem open a new treat for yours!
