• Some problems on antergos with MATE

    Hi there!

Have installed finally antergos on my PC and have wondered why there is now another menu, no the menu like on this here:

    [img:v8v59fgz]http://hacklog.in/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/mate-desktop-screenshot.png[/img:v8v59fgz]

I know from Linux Mint, it’s nice but I don’t like it, so how to deactivate my Linux Mint-Mate menu and activate on antergos like on 1st picture?

I have actually this similar menu here:

    [img:v8v59fgz]http://lifefucks.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/mate_mint_menu.png?w=869[/img:v8v59fgz]

    Second problem:

Since switching of MATE-Team to Galculator from MATE-calculator, I can’t start it with my calculator keyborad button… any ideas?

  • I am not sure about that, since I don’t use MATE, but I think that this could now be the default menu for MATE at all. Maybe because Mint is no rolling release distro it could be that you just did not get the update like you did with Antergos.
It is possible that you could propably choose between these menus, too. Can’t you add it by right clicking the task bar?
Or right click the menu and choose switch to classic menu or something?

For the calculator thing, just check this out:

  • We chose to include Mint’s MATE menu as the default because it’s more useful. You can change it by right clicking the taskbar or in MATE control center.

    Cheers!

For me it’s a problem, I must wait few seconds, until Mint Menu is loaded…

So I need classic view… I did not found it via right click, or in Control Center of MATE hmmmm…

What will happen, if I remove the menu as package?

  • UPDATE

I have removed Mint Menu, added via right click on bar menu bar and yeppiee I have Classic Menu! Love it!

  • Oh oh…something is broken after removing of mate-mint-menu… I get after every loging the error like in screenshot

    [img:293h09do]http://s1.directupload.net/images/140501/temp/57osb6ne.png[/img:293h09do][/url:293h09do]

  • When you removed Mint Menu did you do so by right clicking on the panel and going to properties? Or did you simply uninstall the package? Open the dconf-editor and make sure mint menu is not listed anywhere under:[code:1xnh39e7]org>>mate>>panel[/code:1xnh39e7]

    Cheers!

  • Yep, I did simple removing as package. Since yesterday I don’t have error like in the last screenshot, hmm something has been removed by me, and now I can tell you my next problem, I can’t do right click menu on desktop…how to fix it?

  • I’m not very familiar with MATE. Create a new user and see if that user can right click. If yes then you can reset all of your settings on your account with:

    gsettings reset-recursively org.mate

    Best Regards,

  • I believe there is a big issue with lightdm, I have created another account with own password and could not login with it, the new user has been kicked back to lightdm login window…maybe I can install gdm, but how to install it ? I have read somewhere in Web first I need to turn off lightdm, than install gdm and enable it than reboot?

    To install gdm:

    > sudo pacman -S gdm
    > sudo systemctl disable lightdm
    > sudo systemctl enable gdm
    >

then restart your pc but gdm pulls all gnome dependencies, i’m searching a dm to replace with lightdm.

  • Have installed gdm, but there is problem with testing users login: I get error message

[b:2gxszjkq]“Could not update ICE authority file /home/tester/.ICEauthorty”[/b:2gxszjkq]

    and MATE can’t load through.

P.S. with my own account everyhing works fine, no problems, only with testing account…

  • I do not think this is a problem with lightdm. It sounds like a problem with the default configuration for new users. Try running this command:

    sudo chown -R ${new}:users /home/${new}

Replace ${new} with the new user name you created. Try logging in afterwards and let me know the result. Thanks.

    Cheers!

    I love to have problems!

Have tried your command with testing username, I got the error[b:2e0awxjc] “Could not update ICE authority file /home/tester/.ICEauthority”[/b:2e0awxjc] again for testing user.

  • What is the output of:

    ls -la /home/tester

  • Output is:

    [root @ freecaster freecaster] \# ls-la / home / tester
File not found or directory ls: Access to / home / tester not possible
    [root @ freecaster freecaster] \#

  • You mistyped the command. Check it

  • Have deleted all testing users and created an new testing user “userix”.

I coulld not login with this account, and the follow command shows:

[[email protected] freecaster]\# ls -la /home/userix
ls: Zugriff auf /home/userix nicht möglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
    [[email protected] freecaster]\#

It seems, that [b:1g56hvad]“useradd userix”[/b:1g56hvad] and [b:1g56hvad]“passwd userix”[/b:1g56hvad] does not worked clearly, and there is no created home folder for userix.
