• PC continues to freeze after BIOS update

@vpp21 said in PC continues to freeze after BIOS update:

Those kvm disabled messages still came during boot / Still I have a feeling that I am not using that nvidia

    lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

  • Ok, I guess I have to believe I’m running nvidia now:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK208 [GeForce GT 730] (rev a1)
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device 3693
    Kernel driver in use: nvidia

Well, then I would need to know what that installer removed to guess why Clementine does not work anymore…

After that I can start monitoring the situation again… :)

  • BTW, I could not remove tracker. At least not with the given command. It complained that it breaks some dependencies…

  • 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK208 [GeForce GT 710B] (rev a1)
    	Subsystem: NVIDIA Corporation Device 118b
    	Kernel driver in use: nvidia

I see that your card is kind of same like mine…
" then I would need to know what that installer removed"
All logs will be stored in /tmp/nvidia-installer.log

  • No such file.

  • Yes but the installer only uninstall the xf86-video-nouveau
    but see here:
    https://github.com/Antergos/nvidia-installer/blob/master/nvidia-installer
    may you simple reinstall clementine

  • I see odd timestamps in the messages in this thread. It might relate to problems in showing the exact time in this PC. It seems to lag behind about 8 minutes.

  • do not blame your PC to often give him som hugs also time by time ;)
    Enablde network time protocol?
    Bild Text

  • Nice python script! Seems to give a hint that nothing related to Clementine should be uninstalled but still this happened.

  • @joekamprad, yes I have the same settings in use.

I guess I lost some time during the BIOS hassle, so I went and modified the time in BIOS and now it seems to be within one minute of the time of my phone.

Anyway, so far so good. Not a single freeze after changing the graphics driver! 👍

Now it is just Clementine that is suffering…

  • I gambled a little and executed that yaourt command:

    “# yaourt -Syua”

    Anything to be worried about?

  • Please to get english output:

    LANG=C yaourt -Syua

    #sudo pacman -Rsn clementine
    #sudo pacman -Syy clementine

  • Ok, I’ll do that! Originally, I wanted this PC to use English in everything, but a Finnish keyboard. Didn’t just know how to do that.

  • Uninstalling and installing Clementine did not help, the same issue.

  • close clementine and move db and configs:
    mv ~/.config/Clementine ~/.config/Clementine.bak

  • Ok, so you guessed that Clementine has a habit making a suicide at will? :)

Thanks @joekamprad! Music is playing again!!

I will report, if the freezes continue. It should show its nature quite soon.

Have an outrageous May Day celebration! 🍹

  • Hurray “Tag Der Arbeit” !
Here in Berlin we have the tradition of wearing black clothes and fighting with the police. ;) (I am kidding)

    pacman -Rsc tracker

But you can also simple enhance tracker to do not harm the system like it does with standard settings.
may post what this will uninstall before pushing yes…

  • I move this to “Kernel & Hardware” because this is nothing for newbies ;)

  • Meanwhile, I did some May Day shopping and had a puncture on the way. Felt so pissed, but now that I see that although I left the PC on, it is still ok, and although xscreensaver has not even locked or anything, I feel a lot better. :) I might even try the first graphics adapter now with this nvidia driver… Would make everything much faster!

For me, this feels newbie stuff, because I don’t know Antergos at all. I only know something of Fedora.

How about opening some sparkling wine? It is kind of May Day already?

Yesterday I heard when visiting the local university campus that some students had been drunk already for three days… :) The others were foam bathing in a large tub. I became a little nostalgic when seeing all that.

  • I do already open a bottle of Beer here ;)
