• Linux Sucks ... not anymore!

For everybody is new to Linux here some talk about Linux short history:

He speaks the truth! Linux has a long history with infinite sucking!
But today you can do almost everything with Linux, also Games are fantastic today!

  • He’s right, Linux sucks man…

  • @EarthMind Indeed. I can’t understand why anyone would want to ever run Linux. Why not use Windows so you can use Internet Explorer and have all of your data sent to Microsoft? I can’t help but wonder…
    :P

More than going the data to Microsoft, actually sucks it:worried:

  • It was a good view that video. He makes a good point about that it takes so long for software to become reliable and stable in our Linux community. Hopefully that will improve more now more commercial companies point their eyes to Linux systems.

I don’t agree with the argument about the Ubuntu way though. Although he’s not that critical about Ubuntu’s NIH (Not Invented Here) mentality like many users on Linux forums. Even though Canonical goes quite into the extreme of wanting to do everything themselves (and where sometimes it’s better that they work with the community as mentioned in the video), I fully support most of their initiatives of trying to reinvent things or do it their own way, because we see that some things really work out for all of us. It provides also an alternative for when the community’s or more popular open source project fails. And after all, that’s what open source stimulates.

    • If Wayland still takes ages, maybe Mir can play a stable role as a display server sooner, and maybe function even more stable than Wayland overall.
    • Lightdm is a Ubuntu invention if I’m not mistaken. We see this being used in more Linux distributions.
    • Unity > Gnome 3, but that’s just my and some other people’s opninion

Aside from that, it’s also interesting to see how the Linux desktop is becoming more and more reliable. Hardware works more out of the box, things work and look well. I wonder what the future brings us :-). It can only get better!

  • @judd

A list of details about what Windows collects. This includes links to what Microsoft very recently published themselves about their telemetry (spoiler: they collect everything), links to a youtuber who used to work for them who is running a petition to pressure Microsoft to do more for people’s privacy / stop violating it so much.

    Spread the word!

If, of course, everything is political vested interests, information is one of the great powers of this time and those who will come.

  • And what they are doing with all that “BIG DATA” ?

This is capitalism! To maximize profits is a compulsion, and all means to make use of it is the natural consequence of it.

What a pity … if it is not written I can not translate it and the least I understand when they speak English … I’m sorry

El tipo quiere explicar lo que es un whopper, y en lugar de hacerlo él mismo, activa el Asistente de Google en el visor junto a la computadora para buscar la explicación …

    better ??? ;)

  • Yes, thank you @joekamprad very much, it’s amazing, lol. :)

Unfortunately and especially in everyday life. Are the boys who are most harmed, google sucks and parents in one way or another are required to access that world, but it would be a controversy never to end. It’s like discussing religion, it never ends.

Y lo será hasta el fín de los tiempos, siempre ha sido así. El que tiene poder económico manda, para bien o para mal, pero manda y es rey.-

  • But to the topic, Linux is a success story of the revolution against this dominion of the stronger. Even microsoft had to recognize that the community of users is a great help for the improvement and further development of the system. This goes so far as microsoft starts copying Linux properties, e.g. The window behave (exactly WINDOW behave ;) )

  • @joekamprad
Totally agree, Windows would be foolish if it did not recognize it, the closed code that both protect, is becoming wax against the strong demand of Linux, not only for its community, but because the step is slow but strong and not Claudic to nothing, it is more; Much of Windoes is copied from Linux, such as movement of windows, in synthesis, desktops very similar to Linux.-

that just scares the hell out of me. I seriously got a chill reading that.

  • If Wayland still takes ages, maybe Mir can play a stable role as a display server sooner, and maybe function even more stable than Wayland overall.

I have to strongly disagree with this one. If you want a X-Window replacement, help Fedora guys with Wayland. Why reinvent the wheel? This has shown that they didn’t have the resources either… as Mir has been abandoned (with Unity). What a waste of time and resources.

Lightdm is a Ubuntu invention if I’m not mistaken. We see this being used in more Linux distributions.

Yes, that’s right. All display managers were GTK or QT dependant. Lightdm changed this.

Unity > Gnome 3, but that’s just my and some other people’s opninion

Yes, that’s debatable. Gnome 3 with its extensions is a very useable combination. When I tried Unity it felt awkward and slow. I must confess I never gave it a chance.

    Cheers!
