• unable to set MinimalUID 500

    Hi,
    tried gdm and lightdm and all kind of suggestions googling brought up, but I am not able to autologin to my main user with uid 535. I need to use this uid and not managing to set the system up I am kind of sad having to move back to Ubuntu. Is there really no working solution for this?

    Thanks

  • If you really know what you’re doing, then:

    1. Boot into root bash shell the usual way - by adding to the boot line

      init=/bin/bash

    2. Remount the whole filesystem as read-write the usual way:

      mount -n -o remount,rw /

    3. Change uid and gid for the user username:

      usermod --uid 500 --gid 500 username

    4. Reboot

    5. Done
