• Antergos Slow In SSD

Hello, recently I moved out from ubuntu, and I installed antergnos with gnome the same environment I used to use in Ubuntu. But in my pc with core i5, 8Gb ram and SSD Sata3, the system is running little slow after login. I’d like to know how Can I speed up the Antergos/Arch.

    Thanks

  • uninstall tracker if you do not make use og gnome-music gnome-documents e.t.c.
For me the use of tracking and indexing is much less then there eating of rescources.

But may there is also some not clean configured stuff like graphic driver or fstab.

You will see with this commands:

    cat /etc/fstab | grep defaults,noatime,discard
    lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

[updates once a week] = [90% less problems]

    http://kamprad.net/howto-installing-antergos/
    https://forum.antergos.com/topic/1883/how-to-include-system-logs-when-asking-for-help

  • Exist anyway to disable system animations cause they are running in slow frames. Or I have to install non free drivers. Thanks

The Result from cat /etc/fstab/ is

    UUID=7a7b81a0-a4a0-47cc-83d4-6280169bd24e / ext4 defaults,noatime,discard 0 1

    And the result from lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    	Subsystem: Lenovo Device 3977
    	Kernel driver in use: i915

Now I can run Sudo pacman -R tracker*

  • You can disable animation for gnome with gnome-tweak-tool:

    Bild Text

    sudo pacman -R tracker

will do the job, but also will uninstall some gnome packages like i say before gnome-documents e.t.c.

  • Thank you, now I’ll gonna uninstall tracker and I tell what happens with the speed. thanks.

  • for more tweaks may you have time to read this:

  • Thank you very much, I’m very happy with Antergos and Arch, they work more fine in same apps i have use in ubuntu base.

  • I make this but still slow. I saw in arch exist a mods to make the startx, init with the booting system, not init after login. I’m confuse how can I make this change;

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GNOME#Starting_GNOME

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinit#Autostart_X_at_login

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Silent_boot

  • @pedrolake slow can mean many things. are you saying its much slower then your Ubuntu Gnome system?

what kind of video hardware are you using? drivers?

  • Yes much slower than Ubuntu, I still having to wait 10 seconds to load Gnome desktop.

I don’t know if I’m using any proprietary drivers. But I don’t check the Kernel LTS.

  • would be helpfull to see if may some failures on startup happens:

    dmesg

  • @pedrolake
In general rules and to my knowledge, I see nothing that identifies slowness and even more when your system starts in just over 8 seconds …

Autodidacta en la VIDA …y en Linux, también.

  • Hi! I guess @pedrolake is complaining about Deskyop behaviour not loading time.
Pedro, did you test another desktop just to confirm if is some gnome thing?
Also, are you using the wayland session? Did you test Xorg and classical DE?

Antergos (default OS) - WIN10 (abandoned)
    I3wm - Mate desktop
    AMD - A4 7300 Radeon graphics
    16 GB ram
    HD 1 TB
    Linux newbie since 06/2016

  • Hello, I’m running in Xorg, but I only need move the gnome StartX from login to system boot. It will stop making me wait 10 seconds until gnome desktop loads.

  • @judd at this point ok, but sometimes i need wait 30 seconds in SSD. This is very strange.
