• System lockups: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

I sporadically get complete system lockups and the log shows the following errors:
This issue look to affect kernel 4.10.4-1-ARCH

    • BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000018
    • IP: gen8_ppgtt_alloc_page_directories.isra.14+0x11f/0x270 [i915]
    • RIP: gen8_ppgtt_alloc_page_directories.isra.14+0x11f/0x270 [i915] RSP: ffffc90004727890

I found this bug report that is related to the above problem

What I am suppose to do ? should I do a bug report some where ?

  • Hi,

You should check kernel.org bug system. If you are unable to find a bug report with your issue, you can file a new one. Please, bear in mind that some strict rules need to be followed or your bug report will be closed/ignored by kernel folks.

You can follow this guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel

You can use the LTS kernel meanwhile.

  • ok thanks
