    AUR issues, I can't build this...?

    alt text

    I’m still trying to find an easy samba gui, this same package installed earlier on my other machine (which also has antergos) so I don’t know what these md5 mismatches are about. It could be a degraded cache issue…

    help?

    @d_K: go here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/system-config-samba/
    Download snapshot unpack open a terminal inside the directory:

    makepkg -g
    ==> Retrieving sources...
      -> Found system-config-samba-1.2.100.tar.bz2
      -> Found system-config-samba-docs-1.0.9.tar.bz2
      -> Found system-config-samba.patch
      -> Found system-config-samba-docs.patch
      -> Found system-config-samba.8
    ==> Generating checksums for source files...
    md5sums=('6648fd49701f975cbba3b13174ac6b7c'
             'a91e76d08686eb501e04c27aa0f10bd8'
             'fa728f13b98dcd2e981aa2a4e61ca0d9'
             'ef9ed98bdf27661263477ef2d5ba92d6'
             '5abeeeea50f3d57bf14f0125748dea4f')

    (sorry i do it already for you ;))

    now edit the PKGBUILD and replace the old md5sums with the new created.

    now package will build:

    makepkg -si

    you can also change the sums inside pamac but generation should be done outside…

    @joekamprad I don’t know how you got “system-config-samba-1.2.100.tar.bz2” and “system-config-samba-docs-1.0.9.tar.bz2”, but I have an explanation shortly. Here’s the output of my terminal:

    $ makepkg -g
    ==> Retrieving sources...
      -> Downloading system-config-samba-1.2.100.tar.bz2...
      % Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current

                                     Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed

             '5abeeeea50f3d57bf14f0125748dea4f')

    …as you might see, both those two files needed from fedorahosted.org are both 22k and have the same hash (and btw are both “invalid” compressed files.) So, I manually checked the sources:

    retirement effective March 1st, rip. Their “replacement” repo, https://pagure.io/ apparently has no mention of “samba” or “system-config-samba”…so I have no idea. How did you get those files:question::question::question:

    @joekamprad I honestly can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic but I appreciate the help. :neutral_face: So, is there no hope of building this package? Could I possibly retrieve the missing items from my other box if they’re located somewhere?

    @d_K as far as i understand the source does not exist enymore… when i do the makepkg -g it seems to download the two files but building fails here also…

    ==> Starting build()...
    /home/killajoe/Downloads/system-config-samba/PKGBUILD: line 32: cd: /home/killajoe/Downloads/system-config-samba/src/system-config-samba-1.2.100: No such file or directory
    ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
        Aborting...

    trying to unpack system-config-samba-docs-1.0.9.tar.bz2 shows only error “not an archive” no wonder on 22k size…

    GOOD NEWS, I found 2 downloadable snapshots on wayback machine:

    https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://fedorahosted.org/released/system-config-samba/system-config-samba-1.2.100.tar.bz2
    https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://fedorahosted.org/released/system-config-samba-docs/system-config-samba-docs-1.0.9.tar.bz2

    Both of them thankfully have matching md5’s and I just built the package. Everything seems good so far…
    Can I delete the package files themselves or should I archive them somewhere?

    BTW what you want to do with samba? running a samba server or access samba shared stuff?

    @joekamprad samba server, and not have keep editing the smb.conf file for hidden shares. Plus easy add/remove directory shares. I’ve been pleased with this app on mint and hope it does the same here…

    I also forgot the obligatory Arch step: sudo systemctl start smbd.service:blush:

    Curious how gufw auto-configs the server ports while the client needs to manually whitelist the target server address. Guess that’s just something to get used to when playing around with custom rules. Can you imagine if I had UPnP enabled on my router and I also allowed samba guest access? (yes I know samba isn’t dumb enough to expose to the wan interface by default, but UPnP-puncher+SSH? #IoTDDoS)

    Otherwise, everything good now.

    I hate samba ;) and i am lucky for the moment to not have to use it!
    Before i need to setup a samba server for sharing printer and documents in my company for some customers with “windows only” …
