    Cannot get Pandora Client "Pianobar" to run.

    I am using the “community” install of this…not AUR. I can only seem to get it initiate via Konsole (using KDE). It will let me log into my account and choose a station but when I do so I get this output:

    [?] Select station: 27
    |> Station “Passenger Radio” (2355540462496049261)
    (i) Receiving new playlist… Ok.
    |> “Staring At The Stars” by “Passenger” on "All The Little Lights (Explicit)"
    ao_alsa ERROR: Unable to open ALSA device ‘default’ for playback => Invalid argument
    /!\ Cannot open audio device.
    |> “Below My Feet” by “Mumford & Sons” on "Babel"
    ao_alsa ERROR: Unable to open ALSA device ‘default’ for playback => Invalid argument
    /!\ Cannot open audio device.
    |> “Your Song” by “Ellie Goulding” on "Bright Lights (Deluxe Edition)"
    ao_alsa ERROR: Unable to open ALSA device ‘default’ for playback => Invalid argument
    /!\ Cannot open audio device.
    |> “Firefly” by “Ed Sheeran” on "5"
    ao_alsa ERROR: Unable to open ALSA device ‘default’ for playback => Invalid argument
    /!\ Cannot open audio device.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    change the contents of /etc/libao.conf from:

    default_driver=alsa
    dev=default

    default_driver=pulse

    That fixed the issue, thanks Joe!

    Just for my own education and learning, what does this actually do (alsa vs. pulse)? Feel free to tell me to just google it if you prefer as well. =)

    Thanks,

    @a4orce84:

    I think Pulseaudio as a bridge to use alsa, if it is present then it has to be used.
    Pulseaudio is default on Gnome and KDE also i think…
