    Antergos IRC and telegram bridge

G’Day. I am not sure if this is the right place to address my issues but i’ll try anyway.
From time to time I visit the antergos irc chat room, to read what people write there and learn new things. Unfortunately there is this telegram bridge called T8 over there, which allows users to communicate in IRC using the telegram chat app. It’s impossible to ignore individual users from telegram this way. Quite often, trolls and morons are coming there using telegram, swearing, trolling off topic or even insulting users without a possibility for traditional users to block hes eindividuals using the telegram bridge Do you guys have an idea what to do about this, as these people very often make the irc channel unusable.
    Thanks for any ideas.

@Jeannie____ You could always use telegram yourself and that way you should be able to block the individual telegram users.

So I use my trusty old irc client for irc chat rooms that have no telegram bridge and some telegram programme on my desktop for irc chat rooms with a telegram bridge? This sounds riciculously complicated. If I wanted to use telegram, I’d use it. But I use irc and an irc client.

Edit: You are aware of the fact that telegram-desktop pulls in some ubuntu unity stuff like libunity and some appindicator stuff? Unity and all related things are nothing i want to have near my computer.

    Hi,

I suppose you have already asked to the IRC guys… (I mean #antergos admins). If they can’t give you an alternative/solution, I’m afraid we also won’t be able, too.

    Cheers!

Guys, I think you have to decide if you want an antergos irc chat or an antergos telegram group. Mixing these platforms makes no sense at all, as the smatrphonies constantly paste stickers that appear as spam to me. IRC is no smartphone chat compatible platform.

My criticism was choked by a removal thread form an Antergos irc mod by the way.

<NanoSector> ok that is ENOUGH, I will remove the next person to complain

Imho, the “official” Antergos irc chat has turned into a playground for bored smartphone users with that telegram bridge. Some days ago the only topic for hours was “which smartphone is the right one for whatever purpose.” If I wanted to discuss smartphones with smartphone users, I’d get a smartphone and join an appropriate dicussion platform for such topics.

Fully agree. Antergos IRC in its corrent “telegram” form is a nonsence.

So what can we do to solve this? Create a non IRC group in telegram?
I would not want to see #antergos broken in two different places…

Telegram needs a sticker and nonsense Terminator.
May it is about moderation and screwing the robot?

@karasu said in Antergos IRC and telegram bridge:

So what can we do to solve this?..

Turn the channel back toward Antergos users. Not toward a glamourous crowd of techie T8 spammers with mobile device in hand.

Right now Antergos IRC works against Antergos, not for Antergos.

    Two solutions are possible.

    1. Detach telegram. The channel can be used from any Antergos DE with default IRC clients only, without a need for additional tools or bridges. Any addon, that goes beyond the default, minimal IRC config toward mobile chat apps, should be removed.

    2. Ignore Antergos IRC channel existence. Use Antergos Forum instead.

Everything else is a palliative care for #antergos in its current state.

    Regards

I have no problem with Telegram per se. In fact I find it quite useful to browse the channel while I’m at work and especially being able to catch up with any overnight conversations. Why don’t we just come to a compromise and make it so stickers are not able to be sent to the telegram group? That’s assuming such a setting is possible.

Stickers aside, the channels’s content has nothing to do with Antergos.

During my last 210 min session only 7 min were dedicated to Linux-related question - how to adjust TIMEOUT parameter in Grub.

The rest was a hunt from a bunch of T8-ters for @Jeannie____, a discussion of his habits, computers, desktop, software preferences, programming abilities, informing the people about a personal physical state (wants to sleep, to get a cup of coffee, early wake-up, etc.). It looked terrible, like an agression toward a person, a totally missing respect toward differently thinking people.

Those 203 min were everything else but not Antergos.

Surely that’s down to the channel moderation rather than Telegram though?

All mods in that awful IRC session were T8-ters.

No human moderation possible on telegram? like kick off would be anough.

It’s an irc chat, no telegram group, and telegram bridged users cannot be moderated in irc.

Why not Matrix / Riot instead of Telegram? It can also bridged to IRC (it is already) and a Matrix user can be blocked from IRC.

There is an Antergos room on the Matrix network.:

    #antergos:matrix.org

    Link for possible clients:

    https://matrix.to/#/#antergos:matrix.org

Join room using the Riot.im web client.
