This is what I did (please note that I am not an experienced linux user)
1. Downloaded and installed the current stable live image [url:2kkz1e3u]http://mirrors.antergos.com/iso/2013.11.17/antergos-2013.11.17-i686.iso[/url:2kkz1e3u] on a USB drive 4 GB using OpenSUSE image writer.
2. Tried it on two 32 bit machines : (i) Thinkpad 2623 D8U (specs : [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146286]">[http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a] … 6834146286)
(ii) VAIO PCG U3 (specs: [http://www.japan-direct.com/cartitem.asp?prodid=456]">[http://www.japan-direct.com/cartitem.asp?prodid=456]) --> this is where I actually want to use Antergos to make it something usable. My choice is Arch based distro mainly due to this [url:2kkz1e3u]http://news.techeye.net/software/patch-turns-transmeta-crusoe-into-a-full-i686[/url:2kkz1e3u]
3. Live USB boots up on (i) and works flawlessly and installs without an issue in an external HDD (20 GB, USB connected). My HDD partitions are (I used the advanced option during installation): 16 GB for /root, 1 GB for swap and rest is is for /home.
The HDD will finally go into (ii) as an internal HDD from where I plan to get (ii) to boot.
When I try to boot from the USB HDD using (i), the boot up gets stuck in gdm “Reached target Graphical Interface” both in the normal and failsafe kernel mode. I also get this [url:2kkz1e3u]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8gUUwwWDqo[/url:2kkz1e3u] issue.
When I try too boot (ii) from the USB HDD, I get the following error
[b:2kkz1e3u]ERROR: Root device mounted successfully, but /sbin/init does not exist
Bailing out, you are on your own. Good luck[/b:2kkz1e3u]
for both the normal and failsafe kernel option
Same error is thrown out when I try to boot (ii) using the live USB. So seems its a hardware issue with (ii) VAIO PCG u3. But note CTK Arch [url:2kkz1e3u]http://ctkarch.org/[/url:2kkz1e3u] installs in it without a hick up.
Note that ii) ATI MOBILITY RADEON-M 8MB graphics which requires me to have nomodeset or radeon.modeset=0 as a kernel parameter prior to booting. But I need some instructions on how to do it for the first install and make it permanent.
Waiting for the Gurus to help…thanks in advance.
