• KDE won't boot

I’m able to boot up antergos, decrypt my hard drive but when I reach where the KDE splash screen should appear I can only see the cursor and a black background. KDE does not load.

Using ctrl + alt + F2 I was able to enter tty2 and access the console. I can login from here.

I thought perhaps the issue was that I was behind on an update so I tried to connect to wifi nearby to run Pacman -Syu - I was able to detect the access point however I was unable to connect to it (using wifi-menu, getting ‘connection failed’).

This all happened randomly today, I have not changed any settings, deleted any files or updated anything, simply today KDE wouldn’t boot.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

  • If you are still in need of help, did you try installing a new display manager? I know I had problems with LightDM recently and had to move over to SDDM. If you are using LightDM you can disable it with:

    sudo systemctl disable lightdm

    You can install SDDM with

    sudo pacman -S sddm

And you can enable SDDM with:

    sudo systemctl enable sddm

  • What pringles said, we all had this ;-)
